I have ran the regular long life anti-freeze for years. In aluminum block and head combos, and in iron block/aluminum head combos. No problems.
And yes, the pre-mixed is more expensive but more convenient.

I have to buy Distilled water all the time for my C-Pap so I always have 5 gallons on hand. I pay $0.80 a gallon. So I will buy Prestone 'Any Color' and mix it 40/60 water. Its been good for all my 2.2's, 3.0's and the wifes Buick that was Dexcool crap.
The used stuff I have in my beer can rolling mouse trap. They go out to get to the peanut butter and the beer can rolls and 'SPLASH'. They don't stink when they die.

Convenient? Paying $7 a gallon water is not convenient! I can handle mixing it myself. What a scam selling that 50/50 stuff. LOL

I'm going to change my coolant next week and wondering whats better to run. Prestone 50-50 or Zerex g-05. I am running Eddy aluminum heads. I am currently running Prestone 50-50. Change over to the Zerex G-05, I've been running it 50/50 w/distilled water and 10 oz REDLINE water wetter for the last 15+ yrs in the toys/DD's, you'll see the benefits over the Prestone Mike

Our local Rural King has full strength A/F everyday for $8.99. The same brand 50/50 pre-mix is $6.49 every day. I think that works out to about $4.50 a gallon vs $6.50 a gallon, doesn't it? If so, then that would be $2.00 a gallon for the water. Or $2.00 a gallon for the convenience. However you want to look at it. https://www.ruralking.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=anti+freeze

But it is much more expensive to run in everything, so I run the long life stuff. I also change the antifreeze in my vehicles and equipment every 4 or 5 years. We have a dozen or so pieces that take antifreeze, so maintaining that number of pieces with the G-05 would get pricey. Some of the tractors have been with us for 30 years with no cooling system related problems. Frankly, the number one cooling system problem that I see on older vehicles is the plastic tank on the inlet side of the radiator failing. And that is probably not related to the type of A/F in it. So, can you expand on the benefits you are referring to?

Go buy a gallon of good quality full strength antifreeze ($14) and one gallon of your favorite distilled water. ($.99) Pour half the water in a temporary clean container. Pour half the antifreeze in the new water jug. Pour the water from the clean temporary jug into the new antifreeze jug. Write the contents on each jug with a permanent marker. Now you have 2 gallon of clean new 50/50. For $15 and you know what’s in it.
This is the way to go for those that find it hard to mix it yourself 50/50.
Don’t buy the $6-$8 a gallon antifreeze it is alcohol based and not long lasting. ******It smells like a bottle of isopropyl rubbing alcohol. That is what I’m saying*****
Yes DaveJ you math is right

Yes DaveJ you math is right If you like Prestone better for some reason, Wal-Mart lists both the full strength and the pre-diluted in stock for $10.87 and $8.88 respectively. If my math is correct, that would be about $3.45 a gallon for the water. Or the convenience. However you want to look at it. I am sure that there are more expensive places to buy this antifreeze, but Wal-Marts and farm supplies are fairly ubiquitous. The SDS sheets for both the Durex ($8.99 full strength) and the Prestone ($11.99 full strength) list Ethylene Glycol as the primary ingredient. And Ethylene Glycol is a form of alcohol. So, you're saying not to use Prestone, either? What type of antifreeze do you recommend, since you don't like Ethylene Glycol?

I found my car seemed to run about 10-15 degrees hotter with the Zerex G-05 vs regular green Prestone, both mixed 50/50.
Now I need to pin those needles, got to feel that heat Hear my motor screamin while I'm tearin up the street

At first glance, a 22" radiator in front of a big block doesn't seem to make sense. But the other side of that is that we have all had that combo and it actually cooled fine. I myself have had several BB cars with 22" radiators and have not had any particular problems with cooling. And some of the cooling systems were certainly not optimal. In fact, I have had 2 different '71 GTXs that had the 440 with the standard 22" radiators. Although they cooled fine, that made about as much sense as having the HD suspension and torque boxes and the open rear end all standard on the GTX. Must have been bean counters that thought that up.
