My son drove his 74 charger, 408 striker motor, had a hose leak and it got very hot. Put water and antifreeze in at and got it home. Installed new water pump and thermostat. When he drove it to test it it was smoking some white smoke from the drivers side? I checked the plugs, 2nd on the drive. Side looked a little wet. All others were fine. It still seems to smoke a little on that side but no oil in water and no water in oil? Compression check was about 150 on every piston? Head gasket or possible cracked head?? Thanks for any advice

Might be nothing. Drive it a bit see if it clears up. If it stays cool you could run it a bit. Then recheck the plug.. If it has a coolant leak into the cylinder the plug will be clean and look like it came out of the box. You could pull the header. Loosen each bolt/stud in order and retorque. Guaranteed they will all rotate further even if there isn't6 an issue.

You might pressurize the coolant system. you can get a "tank valve" from O'reillys for less than $3 & it has an 1/8NPT male end & screw it into the coolant sensor port & use your air hose on the schrader valve & go to maybe 15 psi. be carefull & add air in short blips then use your tire psi gauge so you dont blow out the system. Sure sounds like a coolant leak on the driver side. Holler how it goes.

Is there an easy way to find out if head gasket or cracked head if it loses pressure? He has been driving it around and still no mixture with oil and water and car is staying very cool?

If it's blowing white smoke at idle, stick your face in the exhaust and see if it tastes sweet. If it does, you have a coolant leak.

Does the smoke go away after the car is driven a ways?

I will ask him. He sent me a video after he had parked it and white smoke was rolling out of the exhaust

If the smoke is still poring out then you can figure it's head gasket time.

Haven't had time for pressure test yet but my son pulled spark plugs, they all look the same? He also bought one of those test kits to check water for exhaust and it tested good? Water is still clean and he hasn't had to add any yet and oil is still clean? He has been driving it a bit to test it and car is still running good and temp gauge is only getting to about 1/4
