if you need you need to change the bulb in a gran coupe or r/t se overhead console
how is it done?
without taking headliner down?
is there an easy way?
dont want to brake anything!

You have to remove the entire light assembly, it is clipped into the overhead console. Then on the back side of the assembly there is the white plastic light bulb holder that is also clipped in. Good luck and go easy the parts are 50 years old.

Get something under the light's housing and simply pull down..It's held in place by spring tabs..It'll come out fairly easy...Then as stated remove the bulb from the back..

Does anybody reproduce the "clear" lens? I have an original I'm going to use, & the lens has yellowed.

The same light housings were used in some C bodies too. If you make local trips to the U-Pull yard, keep your eyes out. fresnel pattern inside the lens is different but the shape is identical. Cheap way to go if you don't need it perfect.

I’m listening.

Reproduction lens is pretty reasonable - like $40-45.00. Not even worth looking for a used one at that price!

You can get an off-shore incandescent/filament equivalent from Bulbworks.com pn# BW551 for about $10

I'll post the LED equivalent when I can get to my home computer ....

Thanks Dayclona, just ordered the LED bulb.
forgive my ignorance, if bulb burns out?
taking lens down, i seen the pic with snap clips.
do you pry down with screw driver?
is something going to break?
still uncertain, i haven't installed headliner yet. once i do i don't want to remove.

The housing holding the light assembly is metal as well...And is screwed to the roof support...So yes, simply prying down will get the job done without damage...You'll see how it all works when you reassemble your headliner...Oh, and for me..I'm not out much after dark with the car anymore..What I do is keep the assembly's switch set between the two settings{right in the middle} so it won't come on with the door being open..

Pictures usually help, but as mentioned the light assy has 4 clips. 1 on each side, total of 4, holding it in the console frame, it's a SOB sometimes to remove, a thin blade screwdriver between the frames will pry it lose, work around the perimeter slowly until it pops out, getting it back in is just as frustrating, be careful not to stress the pressed cardboard of the console or headliner as it breaks easily

in the pics you'll see the perimeter frame that is crimped to the console, this holds the light in place, in the light pic I've arrowed the 4 clips that hold the light in the console perimeter frame, you don't want to remove the perimeter frame, just seperate the light assy from it
