I use to race a 1969 Dart GTS 383 car that still had the original bigger torsion bars in it when I raced it with a 440 and 727, it had a good 8 inch race converter and 3.91 to 1 gears with 28.0 inch tall slicks. I played around with different things including moving the leaf springs into the sub frame, the car had the rear 1/4 panels butcher up pretty badly before I got so I had them straighten up and repainted the car before running it. When I had the leaf springs move in I also replaced the original springs with the Mopar SS 002 and 003 A body springs which help the 60 ft. and reaction times a bunch up I also bought and install a set of Competition Engineering front drag racing shocks that had 90/10, 80/20 and 70/30 adjustments on them, I took the original front shocks and drill and drain them and put them in the race car trailer to do some A,B,A testing at the track some time. I was finally able to do that at one of the early, pre 2005, MATS races. I made 3 or 4 runs with the Comp Engr. shocks on the car on Thursday and Friday, I swap the drilled shock on before making another run and ended up laughing so hard after letting off at the finish line due to the car acting like a low rider bouncing the front end up and down haha The car did run a tiny bit quicker with the drilled shocks on compared to the Comp Engr. shocks set at 90/10 but I couldn't stand the porpoising so I changed one side(left front I think) to the Comp Engr to stop the bouncing, which worked fine up
That car wasn't very fast, I think it ran a best of 11.17 at 122 MPH in the 1/4 at that race but I could go rounds in it and win some races thumbs
Test, test and test some more to learn as much as you can, good or bad thumbs twocents

1960s & 70s chassis tech. I don't know what to say. Uncle Tony has a following, knows his way around the old stuff and I'm sure is doing OK being a YT star.

But, dang it, some of these Mopar guys haven't seen the light of day since Hitler was a Corporal. I'm a purist and a traditionalist. but unless you want to stay stuck in the 70's with your L60 Road Huggers and Lakewood J-bars on your 13 second Duster, you have to pay a minimum of attention to what's going on around you.

Shock technology advances the last few years have been crazy. Easily one of the most important parts on a decent, serious race car.

Unfortunately, a lot of people think he knows something just because he has a YouTube channel.

He may know his parts and pieces on the old stuff. Considering the chickens and all, the shock video may be a spoof making fun of guys who still actually do that.

There is some good info on YT, and plenty of bad You have to vet it and consider the source.

LMAO , good vid. Back in 1986ish....i had drilled my front shocks on the duster i street raced. But we used to drill them drain out some oil then put a sheetmetal screw in the hole LOL. Then you "adjusted" the shock by adding or taking out oil. It did work good ....that duster won 40+ street races undefeated

....BAD A$$ STREET CAR.....

Its obvious UT does thing on the cheap- real cheap. Thats cool. I got burned out years ago on Powernation-Horsepower TV builds with a million dollar budget. But I believe his low cost tips for suspension set ups- Is meant for 11-14 second cars and not 9 second cars? Its easy to bash Tony Defeo but the guy has credentials in the mopar world. I want my car to look nicer than the stuff on his channel (and it will) but I like his budget approach.

Yeah i would tend to think he is talking about super low buck racing. there are a lot of guy's who just don't have the cash but still want to have fun nothing wrong with that? they can always upgrade as they get faster and some cash.

Yeah, if you have a 9 second combo you should already know what kind of car those sorts of tips apply to. His stuff is more beginner oriented (he says it all the time in the videos). I like watching his stuff. And really, hot rodding is not fun when you sink crap loads of money into it and cars are apart for years, so I like his budget approach too.

I think my favorite tip from him was running a vapor separator fuel filter. As simple as it is I had forgotten that they existed. I wish I had remembered and tried it before I put an Aeromotive pump on my car, it might have been a $5 fix for my vapor lock issues. The pump does make it sound racier though.

Flame on.

I tried, but just couldn't make it through.

I was a fan of DeFeo's Car's Illustrated/similar era work.

Chuck Samuels, and the Fast Times Motorworks guys we’re running 8’s with that technology, 25 years ago. But I guess to do that same thing now, you need to spend money on fancy parts?

Also, if you watch his channel, it’s all centered around how do to things with what you have, and not spend any money.

A video or 2 later hes touching base on a never drag strip daily driver with a 360. He has the core engine torn down. He showed how to unstick some piston rings stuck in their lands. When he said he MAY re use the rings to save $100 I had a Fred Sanford heart attack. I posted for him to please use new rings. Even the poorest of us budget for new piston rings the moment we tear down an engine. Rings bearings and gaskets in a kit is still incredibly affordable even thru an Autozone or Avance store. Still Like Tony but think he may be going to extreme with the term "Budget."
