My buddy acquired a 67 dart with 440 and factory a-body manifolds. Does anyone know if angle plugs work with them? He wants to run trick flows. He aware of the power losses but I can’t talk him out of it. He wants 500hp so I’m gonna aim for 550+ and cross my fingers I can talk him into headers eventually. Even tti shortys would be a big improvement.

If anybody has this answer I’d love to know, although I think I have him talked into buying a set of tti 1 3/4 shortys.

I ran an angled plug head with manifolds for a single season and after the aggravation of frying plug boots paid to have a set of custom headers made. Can't remember the style of logs though - they weren't anything special.

Depending on the goals of the build your friend might want to have a look.

use the straight plug edelbrocks. probably won't be much if any power difference with the manifolds.

I agree although we are going to be building a separate short block and bolting all this onto a low comp 440 for now.
TrickFlow are best bang for the buck and leave room for more later. I don’t like the quality of Edelbrock these days. By the time we had them worked and proper springs installed may as well have gotten the trickflows. We are also starting out with a hydraulic roller
that’s custom ground for a low comp 440. It’s 230/239 .520/.540 on 112lsa. Along with new heads and 1 3/4 shortys. I’d think it’ll make 450 with 8 to 1. Yes I did the math and even with 78cc chamber it’s still low. The car is an absolute turd currently. It barely breaks the tires loose.

Has he considered selling those manifolds? If they are original 440 A-body manifolds they are very rare and expensive. Even the 383 A-body ones are not cheap.
Then he could buy whatever headers work with the angle plugs...

This is what I told him. I don’t know what they’re worth but I know they’re valuable.

You know that 440 motors weren't available in production A body until 1969, correct?
Which means that those manifolds may be 383 and not 440
Look at the casting numbers and casting dates on them to see what they came on originally, I have heard of some guys using some of the early C body manifolds to put a 440 in some of the early A bodies
I bought a set of 1967 383 A body manifolds for my 1969 Dart GTS H code 4 speed car several years back to get rid of the low hanging Hooker fenderwell headers. I may be in the market for a set of 1969 383 exhaust manifolds, cash or trade

I don’t have the numbers off them yet but they’re definitely a-body. They neck way down around the steering column.

After looking at casting dates I believe somebody put standard hp manifolds in a-body somehow. I didn’t even know this could be done.

I used standard HP manifolds on my 69 Dart, 383. I had elephant ears, so it fell where it needed to to clear, and it was tight around the steering column.

If they are original factory A body manifolds, they may not fit. Also the drivers side is very restrictive. B body HP manifolds fit fine as long as you trim back the steering column. Andy F did it, take a look. http://www.moparts.org/Tech/Archive/bb/550hp.html ask him if there were any mods
