I didn't have a clue he was this young. In 1986 I was in college and the guy I shared an apt with was a huge fan of his. The guy had been in Nam so I just assumed Prine was from way back then(He was but wasn't that old). Did the math and yep, I guess in 70' Prine would have been a young man just starting out.

The first time I ever saw or heard of him was on Austin City Limits about least twenty years ago. He came on and did "Big old goofy world" and I told my wife that I was going to go buy his cassette and I did, one of many to come. He was an unusual songwriter with a gentle wit. I read on another site a quote that I thought was appropriate: "There are two kinds of people in this world, those that know and love John Prine and those who will" Not a bad legacy.
Well I'd heard of him, though I never listened to the music. Then, when I read of his death I checked out a few songs. The one that really caught me is "Lets Talk Dirty In Hawaiian". That's a good tune.
