Whats the best way to balance a stroker kit in an original 70 440 hp 4 speed engine. Can the original flywheel and balancer be used, or will I need to ditch both to avoid adding or removing a bunch of weight. would like to keep the factory balancer if at all possible.

Did that motor have the external balanced flywheel and balancer?
If so your stuck with them or replace both of them with new parts that are made for a internal balanced motor, which would be my choice
The balance shop should be able to deal with either set up, call them and find out what they suggest for you

Depends on your preference whether your buying used or brand new. If you purchase a brand new kit and depending where you purchase the kit, you will have an option to have your crank internally balanced by the seller or you can take it to machine shop to have it balanced.
440 source offers stroker kit and crank shaft balancing is free. Extremely happy with my 512 now that I have my six pack dialed in.

You can do anything you want if you're willing to pay for it. I don't know if the FAST guys have to use a factory damper or not but if they do then they would have to factor that into the engine build. Personally I'd ditch the factory stuff but if you're trying to keep the engine looking stock then you'll just have to do what you have to do. I think putting a 50 year old damper on a stroker engine is pulling the pin on a grenade.

The best way to protect your expensive investment is to not use 50 year old parts that have a job to do, and a finite lifespan.

Forget about what the damper looks like, and use a new one that will actually perform the job it’s designed to do on your build......... along with a new steel flywheel.
