Recently ECS stopped selling carpets so I was looking for another source. Something that won’t fade, has original factory quality for a 1972 Dodge Charger. Black is stock to the car, so I wanted to keep that for the carpet. Any suggestions or a source?

Showtime Restorations the former Motorparts South, hands down. You will not be disappointed. Great people, two I have installed were in 3rd generation Chargers and fit great.

Really don't have much choice, there is only ONE company that makes carpet and that is ACC.
Pick your favorite vendor and it will be from ACC.
One piece of advice, you are much better buying it from a supplier who does not have it in inventory but rather has them made to order.
You have no idea how long that carpet has been sitting rolled up in the box and it becomes a headache removing the wrinkles.
I order all my carpet when the order is placed and ACC has it shipped fresh within 48 hours, take it out of the box as soon as you receive
it and you will have much easier install.

Their carpet source for the about the last decade has been ACC, ACC has slowly acquired the various auto carpet operations large and small, As for the OP's question, I'd second Dante's advice, and I'd also recommend the mass backing option...

I ordered mine direct fro ACC a few years ago and at the time of order I asked about shipping flat and they offered to do that direct for additional fees, though they insisted all their carpet was made to order, freshly formed and wouldn't require the ship flat if you handle it correctly . . . but your choice. So I ordered without the ship flat option and got the mass backing, followed their suggestion once received. No issues with the process but did find the mass backing was more difficult to work with, just my opinion from my experience. Again, looks great, no errors on install, just harder to wrestle, cut, and form as needed in some areas.

I've seen where Mike was high on the product in the past and one of the reasons I went with the mass backing, maybe there are a few tricks he's learned and can share to make installation easier.

Good luck

What is the mass backing? Is that thicker jute material on the backside of the carpet?

I don't know 71-up B-bodies well, but I've used ACC on about a dozen '68-'70 Bs & '70-up Dusters, never had a problem.
Soon as I get it, I lay it out either in the car or on the guest bed to let it flatten out.
Installation: on the Bs I locate the carpet at the gas pedal/heel pad 1st, double-checking everything.
After the heel pad, I like to go next to the seatbelt anchors.

Mass backing is an additional rubber insulator/padding that’s applied directly to the back of the carpet and about 1/16” thick, jute is still glued to the back in the places normally expected.

I too received the above announcement from ECS. I called them today to get clarification on the statement "Last Call for Carpet". ECS has a window of taking orders for carpet. When they accumulate a certain number of orders from customers, they then process that group. Once they reach that cutoff, you can still place an order. However, it will be for the next next cycle or group of orders.

Bottom line. They will continue to sell carpet. They are just cutting off for this cycle on April 15th.

David
