Just tried posting this a few minutes ago but something went wrong. Excuse me if it actually shows up as a duplicate post.

By chance, about 2 months ago I crossed paths with a guy who was having a Mopar muscle car discussion with a mutual friend of ours. Turns out that his dad used to have some nice Mopars back in the day. He told me about some literature that he had left from that era, some of which I had never seen or even heard about. I ended up picking up a few items from him. A 1969 Performance Guide & Catalog (small book), mostly complete set of NHOA newsletters, Some Racing Manuals, old Special Parts catalogs with price sheets, etc.

He told me that he had saved an engine chain sling that he claimed came standard with the original Race Hemi cars. I had never heard of such a thing. He is sure he has it though.

Question is this – Is there really such an item as a chain sling that came with the race cars? If so, it might be a cool thing to have.

Any help and/or comments will be appreciated. Thanks !

Bill

a pair of chain hoist brackets are occasionally found on '66 cars scope

Thanks for the pics and reply !

Are those that are occasionally found thought to have been left there intentionally or as a factory oversight? Are they something a restored car “should” have or it just an oddity? Just ‘66 cars? Can’t say I ever saw or noticed them at all over the years.

I seen them on a few cars.. I thought they were for running the plug wires... to me they looked to wimpy to lift
a hemi.. IMO... even on my SB stuff I use the 4 corner intake bolts 3/8"

Now you have me even more curious to see what he comes up with. I will post pictures to update this when I actually get eyes on them.

It’s my understanding those were used to remove the engines from the Marysville transport racks.

The racks came in to the assembly plant then the engines were removed and placed on the line, the trans was married to the engine then installed on the k-frame.

Someone forgot to remove those brackets.

All cars were body dropped, no one installed an engine in to the engine bay. Except for repair in the plant and I doubt that happened much if at all.

I will throw in here that I never liked the lift that bolts to the carb holes and lifts from the intake manifold! down

HEMI-ITIS has no cure.

those plates work good if a few simple "rules" are followed.
make sure first, the lift plate is well constructed. meaning, your welds are good, not some import "stick on" welds.
make sure your intake threads are good.
and finally, use quality bolts that are the right length, meaning using almost all of the thread depth of the intake holes without bottoming out the bolts. studs work better, again using all of the available threads. the shear point of a quality 5/16" bolt is way more than the weight of an iron hemi, and you have either four or eight in use.
just my experience with gen one 392's. your mileage will vary.

In regards to the Hemi, 16 intake to head bolts, 1/4-20, with over 2K pounds of tensile strength per bolt, so that’s 32K pounds.
4 - 5/16 carb to manifold bolts with a total of 16K pounds of tensile strength.

In this situation the weakest part of the whole deal is the bolt/stud threads in the manifold.
Using a lift plate that engages all 8 carb studs/bolts will double capacity.

Biggest issue is making sure like already mentioned that the full thread engagement has been made, everything is tight.
And keeping shock loads out of the installation, like preventing the engine from bouncing on the portable engine lift - like when moving the lift across a rough floor.

Still scares the daylights out of me though.

I have to use a engine leveler on both the race car and the Rampage... the trans is already mounted
to the engine and I slid both in together and it go in with the hood on
