what oil pump, what heads, what type of rpm does it see?
Well, art is art, isn't it? Still, on the other hand, water is water! And east is east and west is west and if you take cranberries and stew them like applesauce they taste much more like prunes than rhubarb does. Now, uh... Now you tell me what you know.

Nope, not enough IMO. You can overfill it by 1 qt, and run the longer filter. But IMO, you need at least 7 qts, which would be an overfilled Hemi pan. 7K and a HV pump needs a lot of oil volume.

at 7K, with only a 5qt sump, they very well might. That's why I asked.

I agree. And it will get backed up in the valley and around the crank at that rpm. Not to mention G forces pusing it up the back of the pan. We agree on the idea. I suppose I'm a little more cautious about applying it to every situation...lol.

Theres a lot more to "big engines" and "small oil" than the size of the pump.
First, with a huge be stroker motor, you've got LOTS more windage, and less room to deal with it. That causes foaming problems. One reason to use a deep pan is NOT to get more oil, but to get the oil sump FURTHER from the crank
Any engine that you "tend" to run harder (more RPM, more accelleration) is going to cause oil starvation and foaming problems
I say, figure out how to get a bigger pan in there. You're not the first guy to put a "big mota" in a Mopar

I use the 1970-71 stock Hemi-440-6pak oil pan in my Duster with a stroker BB,my motor is slid back one inch from the stock location based on the trans mount. I did have to trim the backside of the K member some to get the pan to clear, I used the stock 440-6pak 3/8 pick up also The motor pulls really hard to 7300+rpm and I've never had a oiling related problem yet in three + years of hard street and strip driving. I use a stock Mopar windage tray and I built the crankshaft scraper for the motor I also had the #4 cam journal grooved so the rockers would oil full time still no oiling return issues that I'm aware of, the motor has been apart several times changing parts and inspecting for the next years use there are a number of oil pans that will work in your chassis but most of the aftermarket ones are a deep sump like the Moroso and Milidons, which for a street car I don't like or use

I suck the pan dry in my Demon's 340 (TRW HV pump, stock pan, baffled and with a windage tray) if I don't run it a quart high. Only under heavy acceleration.
And how would you know that?
