Asked on truck forum but no help. Thought maybe someone on the Q & A forum would know since it has more traffic. up

Finishing up 5.9 swap into the Dakota and obviously need to swap the front coils as the nose is very low due to it being a V6 truck. My question is will 1st gen 2wd Durango coils work since they are more plentiful in the pullaparts? Checking different part #s at RA shows very little interchange and that a 4.7 is different than a 5.2/5.9, I'm guessing since the 4.7 is lighter.
Anyone have some input?

The Hollander Interchange shows '89-'96 6-cylinder interchange but not 318. '97-'03 no interchange with earlier.

Thanks, John, but I have a 2000 Dakota (considered 3rd gen I'm told) and was wondering if anyone had some experience with using Durango coils on a Dakota. Around here V8 Dakotas (5.2/5.9) are few and far between in the pullaparts but Durangos are plentiful. up

If you click on the part number at Rockauto it'll give you the applications.

In this case the 360 2000 Durango springs are also listed for the 2000 Dakota.

My '04 Dakota SXT 4.7 has torsion bars in front, not coil springs. When did they start putting torsion bars in the Dakotas?

my 96 4wd has torsion bars, all of my 2wd Dakotas have had coil springs in front from 89-99. (covers more than 1 gen/body design)

4wd uses torsion bars on Durangos and Dakotas. 2wd use coil springs. I knew about RA listing application by part number. up What I'm trying to find out is if anyone had first-hand experience using, say, springs from an '01-'03 Durango 5.9 or '98-'99 (according to RA these 2 years don't even interchange) Durango 5.2 or 5.9. I do run across these pretty regularly. I would list '97-'99 5.2 or 5.9 Dakotas but cannot remember ever running across one in a pullapart. work
