Never seen this question before here. . An epoxy will stick the best, roughen the surface if you can, a battery never(?) gets any physical abrasion, only issue will be thermal expansion overtime to cause peeling, as I see it.
Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

I’m in the process of gutting a Turbostart (Axion) Mopar restoration battery to put an Odyssey inside and it would be nice to spray this thing with fresh coat of semi gloss black, but I can envision it peeling off in the future....
anybody with experience in this care to chime in? I painted a vintage lead-acid battery a few years back (still looks great) that had been stained by acid/corrosion, wipe it down with acetone a few minutes just prior to painting (helps "soften/etch" the surface for paint adhesion), use a light (almost misting) coat of SEM Black Landau interior vinyl paint followed by a light (misting) coat of SEM Low Lustre clear vinyl spray, the SEM SATIN vinyl clear is to shiny IMHO, light coat is all you need to restore color/finish, avoid a full coat as battery plastic (I assume a form of Bakelite?) doesn't like "regular" paints (learn that the hard way!)... use PPG 3 step plastic prep system .One Choice Su4901 cleaning sponge W/ green scuff pad. wipe down with SXA 103 multi prep, wipe down with Su4902 adhesion wipe, then give it a light coat of advanced plastic bond SU4903 for spray guns or SU4903A aerosol bomb. once everything is dry 2 med wet coats of DP90 catalyzed with DP401 and reduced 25% with appropriate temp DT reducer. end result will be a perfect semi gloss black and will be extremely durable. the body shop where i work at uses this system almost every day for at least 8 years without ever getting a comeback due to peeling paint when painting new unprimed bare plastic bumpers. https://us.ppgrefinish.com/Training...repping-Bare-Plastic-National-Rule-Areas
