Can't answer directly, but a joke: A single number, or the 1st number before the 'W', is the time in seconds for oil pressure to reach the last bearing in the engine. 5W30: 5 seconds 20W50: 20 seconds 50: 50 seconds

Interesting way of looking at it! I once did a comparison of several oils by putting them in identical jars then freezer overnight. Pretty damn interesting the next day.....30w (which was damn common in the 70’s) is REALLY thick when cold!!!

I remember hearing some sort of expert comment about oil weight ratings being based on the pour rate time for a quart of oil to go through a screen or siv at the same temps., lighter weight oil went through it quicker than the heavier weight rated oils did I can see the differences in 5W20 Wt. compared to 30Wt on the time it talks my mechanical oil pressure gauge to make pressure with the same outside air temps. Lighter weight rated oil is faster on making oil pressure to the gauge cold

The question is, Roller or Slider? My 410 stroker Magmumn 5.9 roller cam will get a 15W40 (Delo LE or Rotella T5) for the first and second oil change. Then 5W30 Syn blend.
