Hi all. I just bought a brand new gas tank for my 69 Bee and was thinking about clear coating it before installing it. I would like to protect that nice new shiny finish...... has anyone clearcoated their tank ? if so please post the results and what products you used.

Later, BUZZ

I never did and never will.
I hit it with WD 40 every now and then.

Did that once many years ago - and it discolored if it got any fuel on it.

I polished out the zinc coating on my new tank with steel wool and coated it with Dupont Chroma clear coat, still looks the same 16 years later, zero issues with finish.... use quality products/equipment no spray can crap

Looks great. Did you do anything with the straps? Getting ready to install a tank on my Plymouth

would the Eastwood 2k matte or satin clear work...... it is catalyized so it should resist gas and be tough enough to resist scratching. I should have bought the stainless steel version of this tank but was afraid that it would have been to shiney. I would like to do the chroma - clear but couldn.t be bothered mixing up so little just to do the tank............ you said you used steel wool to scuff the tank , my tank is brand new out of the box, do I still have to rub it down with the steel wool ?

I always heard that clear coat was porous and that it would still oxidize under the clear. I know people have clear coated drive shafts after blasting them and they started rusting under the clear.

inherited a 69 roadrunner from my grand pop.
