So Near, Yet So Far
Sanding down the pitting on a '68 Plymouth driveshaft, I found what appears to be 2 stripes.
They run around the shaft, 22" & 25" from the rear end of the tube, and are about 3/4" wide, brushed on, appear to have been white.
I've seen this on Fords, but in 40+ years don't recall it on a Mopar.
And these are not as "nice" as the Ford ones.
The car itself is low-mileage, though it's having its 52nd birthday next month.
I can't think of a reason for them unless everyone has missed that, which is unlikely, given the talent.
The rest of the car is #s & codes, shaft looks legit, but I'm mystified.

I had two stripes on my original T/A driveshaft.

Thanks for responding, Troy.
What color were your stripes?

I searched the archives and Google itself, no mention of them on Mopars.
All the photos of top-notch Mopar driveshaft restorations don't show or refer to them.
This shaft also lacks the lengthwise weld that some restored ones show, but it's definitely a Mopar shaft.
(No idea why there'd be a lengthwise weld anyway)

^^^ What's that shaft out of ?
I'm sure it was a quick-ID thing, different colors for different applications.

I'm surprised this hasn't been discussed & charted already.

Clever method of applying the stripes, BTW.

That's Troy's T/A. I bought it from him about 10 years ago.

I found stripes on my '70 Dart's drive shaft. Yup, you don't hear much about this on Mopars.

Thanks, KWF.
I can't recall ever seeing anything on this topic, nor had I previously noticed it myself.
If the top restorers know & re-apply them, I don't recall seeing or reading about that either.
