Currently gonna run Dwayne's solid flat tappet( 270@50-.645") cam in the 12.5:1 511 for the coming season, but next season will be trying a solid roller and would like to know what the max lift I should be looking at with these victors to avoid a bunch of install height issues? I want this cam change as easy as possible. I have twin billet 750's ordered from Dom and a Indy T ram soon to order all for next season as well. Lunati spec'd a solid roller for me at 278/288@50 with .726" lift. I'm thinking I may want less lift to avoid the victor issues, not sure. Just getting my ducks in a row for now. Thanks

I think there has been several posts about that is other discussions recently. I currently run a .740 lift roller cam, with stock length valves and easily available retainers and Isky springs. On the pro comp copy Edelbrock Victor Jr. heads. I run about 250 lbs on the seat. I did cut the spring pockets a little, don't remember how much.

Ok, thanks. I seen something awhile back, but nothing lately and was looking for fresh data. The search on here has not been very good since the update. I should be fine then with .726” lift before lash.

I think I used the PAC 1226 or 1326 roller springs with Comp Cams tool steel 10 degree keepers for 1.500 diameter springs, I set every spring up so they are between .055 to .080 from coil bind which I think gave me 275 lbs. on the seats and around 750 lbs. opened. My heads had been ported al the way to the valve seats and they had all the numbers for the later Victor castings according to the tech. I talked to at Edlebrock about them.
No real challenges on them that I remember now, that was over 6 yrs. ago and many motors builds since also shruggy

Thanks cab. Sounds encouraging. I'm gonna have to get some new tools for the job, but I think I can handle that without too much issue by the sounds of it.

On the new Victor MW heads, PAC 1326 Springs with PAC retainers and spring locators that were only 0.030" thick vs, the standard 0.060" thickness
2.00" Install height.
My old Victor MW heads had the spring seat cut. I don't recall how much, but tried cutting the spring seat a bit more and ended up breaking through (hard to detect it was very small) into the port at one edge.

Cool. Who has the best price on those items? Great info, thanks

I forgot to mention the retainers and keepers where ten degree and machined for their lash caps that I used up

Cool. Looks like my target is 2” install height. I will need a spring pressure tool.

Would there be a formula for figuring piston to valve clearance if you know your current clearance? My current clearance is .119" on intake and .170" on exhaust using clay. Would like to figure pv clearance on paper to see if I can fit the 278/288-.726/.726-108 cam without issue. this cam would be in at 104. If not I have a smaller default roller as well picked out. Both Harold Brookshire cams. If anyone has a known formula I would appreciate it if you could post it up. Thanks

Do you trust Murphy won't be messing with your motor using math formulas only work Not me, ever down twocents
I would install and check both cams on P to V clearances and lobe separation angles on both the intake and exhaust lobes and at .050 lobe lift timing on the lobes and check the actual valve opening on both valves also wrench up

Don't trust my math skills enough to not check piston to valve clearance. If you wanted to maybe save the head gaskets, use air to remove one intake and exhaust valve spring, install weak springs and check piston to valve with dial indicator. Just roll it over while bumping the rocker arm with your finger till you find the tight spot. I prefer clay so you can check radial clearance of the valve pocket, but it sounds like that is not an issue with your engine. To tell you the truth if you have aftermarket shelf pistons, most of them have plenty deep valve pockets, BUT is it worth the damage if it is not right?

My main concern on using math instead of manually checking the P to V with light springs is the actual rocker arm ratios, instead of the advertised ratio scope
I've seen as large as a full + or- point variance(1.4 to 1.6 on a set of 1.5 ratio rockers down) on stock type ductile iron rocker arms and a little less variation on decent aluminum rocker arms puke
Test, test and test some more to be sure up

Oh, I would absolutely physically check VP clearance once cam is in. I just thought it would be nice to check on paper first before spending $500 on a cam that definitely won't fit.
