While I rebuilt the 440 int he charger, I replaced the clutch, and flywheel, Used a billet set up from Brewers. Starter sounds like a chevy thats miss shimmed. I changed starters with a different one, seems quieter, but still a bit noisy....

Anyone ever have this issue?

I have the same issue, the starter seems to be to close to the ring gear on the flywheel. I am using a Billet RAM flywheel, and a Ram clutch. I have not checked the ring gear position on the flywheel. But I have tried different starters . Living with it for now.

OK, Im using a NAPA mini starter and the upper hole is bigger than the 7/16 bolt, I tried making a bushing in my lathe to center it better, kinda made it worse, Im going to experiment with offseting that upper bushing, and sand the centering nubbin to get it away from the ring gear.

Im using a stock starter. What it seems to me is the ring gear on the flywheel is out of position.

Put some gear marking compound on the flywheel teeth. There should be .060" clearance in the root of the tooth. If the mesh is too close the starter will need to pivot outward. Is this a stock bell housing? Its also possible the flywheel teeth are further forward towards the block than stock. The starter bendix may be coming out far enough to touch the teeth. In that case a simple shim between the bell housing and starter will fix it. Before anything call Dan Brewer and ask him.

Yes mine is a stock bell housing. I think it is an issue with the location of the flywheel teeth closer to the block.

Stock bellhousing, and when I shimmed my starter away from the block the noise seemed worse, Ill try to shim more....
