Well, I need to replace my 54 year old clutch Sure-Grip. A couple of spider gears are cracked as is the housing. I am leaning towards the Tru Track, but not sure. 3.91s in a 489 case. 295 MT Mickey Thompson drag radials. Mostly street, but some 1/8 mile king of street stuff. Started to go with a spool, but think I would rather have a Sure-Grip. The Eaton Tru Trac seems to run over $600. Is that what I need. Is there a better price out there for it? Thank you!

Doctor Diff sells new power locks if you want the same as what you were running. Not too bad on price either, believe they are under $400. To Clarify; the Power Lock (Powr Lok) is a clutch type. The OP’s 489 could very well have been a cone type, which is vastly inferior to the clutch type. Most would agree the clutch type IS the way to go, and Doc is the man. There are Eaton Tru Track fans, and some detractors. I run a clutch type, wouldn’t have it any other way.

As I said in the opening, I have the CLUTCH type. No way would a cone hold the drag radials. I have tried a couple of times to get a hold of Dr Diff, but to no avail. His website seems to say that he is out of both the Eaton and the Sure-Trac. And he says on his website that he has has trouble with the Eatons, so he recommends the cheaper Sure-Trac.
Not sure just what to do here which is why I asked for some input. If all else fails, I can spool it. It's just that I do park at shows and such, and those spools are a pain there.

I missed the word clutch. Got it. What’s a “Sure-Trac” ???

Dr Diff doesn't show either one in stock, but both are available on ebag. Basically $600 +/- either way.

My 8.75" power-locks are in stock. See below: https://www.doctordiff.com/8-3-4-clutch-type-sure-grip-powr-lok.htmlUnfortunately, I don't know when the Sure-Tracs will be back in stock as the mfg has been dragging their feet. If anyone needs to contact me, please E-mail. Phone calls are hit-or-miss this time of year. BTW, don't abbreviate "doctor" in my E-mail address. That is another guy. My E-mail address is doctordiff@gmail.com

Okay, that email address has been my problem.
I guess you know that 'your' Sure-Tracs are available on the bag. They are higher which may be why they are still available.

Well, I can't get that link to work from here. But it appears to be the same unit.

I have ran cones a number of times. When traction is roughly equal on both sides, they work okay. But with sticky tires, when one side is compromised, like when track prep is marginal, they won't hold. In other words, a cone is not nearly as consistent as the clutch type.
