There are thousands of these in clumps all over the yard. Neighbors call them wild onions. Can you eat them? More importantly should you?
They grow much faster than grass and look like, well you know what they look like. Is there anything that will get rid of them without killing the grass or our dog.

Lol, I mowed grass yesterday and smelled like onions.

We have wild garlic here also.Not very good to use but man do they smell.Seems to keep bugs away.Rocky

The wild garlic is actually great, it dont do well unless you would step in. If unattended all the cloves in the bulb sprout and they compete and its hard to get a 1/2 dollars sized bulb, and it comes up early in many spots and gets burned off.

Mine comes up mid feb and I keep an eye on it and then I dig it up, break all the individual sprouting and rotted cloves apart and transplant indoors till mid may and in the end end up with fist size bulbs thats so fresh and packed with the important oils that are so beneficial to the body,

The store bought even under some of the best times can be almost a year old.

If you took a clove from the fresh harvest vs what comes from the stores and pressed it youd see the huge amount of oil produced from the fresh vs the store.

You can also let the hard neck garlic top out and the tiny bulbs are great but cut done on the size of the bulb. If you plant top part bulbs you can grow some big single clove garlic.

We used to have onions that look like that in part of our garden. We used to use them in soup. We have chives also that were good for that.

Up until I was in the 8th grade, we used to have onions that grew wild just like that at the back of our property. The flavor was wonderful... the price was too. When we moved closer to town, we lost the garden option we had out near the city limits.

So Potatohead, are you recommending digging up my wild garlic and separating the cloves?

yes, the only thing that makes it wild is by some people opinions, its not like free range animals that might taste gamey

Weed and Feed lawn fertilizer will kill the broad leaf weeds in your yard and the wild onion too.

Proper ramps are a different species and have very wide leaves and look more like lilies growing than domestic and wild onions like the ones in the OP's yard (though they are all in the same family). Pretty sure ramps only thrive above a certain elevation and in certain exposures.

For those that haven't had them, I find them to be like a cross between a mild onion and mild garlic. A lot of flavor without the heat some onions and garlic have. But yes, good eating and good to cook with.

I'm from NC's ramp central area up in the mountains. Country folk take ramps dead seriously. The fine bladed wild onions are apparently an native american food staple.

they are very poisonous to your dogs if they eat them...my Vet told me to dig them at the roots, and plant grass where you dig them up.

How to get rid of them? pull them up wash, cut up and Food-Saver bag them.
Then add to one part Oil and one part Flower that has been burnt by lightly stir with a wooden spoon or whisk
Add in Garlic, Celery and the Wild Stuff ya was tossing out make ya a Gumbo-Stew-etc.
