Yes that is the rage now....4-400 hp outboards is about $100k in motor alone. I want to retire near the beach and have a center console Near shore boat but even used single 4 stroke outboard fishing boats are crazy priced. Boat dealers have long term finance plans for an engine only!
Looks like I'll find a good I/O with say 4.3 Merc and use it instead.....not the best but easy to find for under 10k. When the salt kills it a long block is very cheap.

What's the point of multiple outboards - why not a couple big inboards ??
At the Detroit Autorama there were guys there marketing a 16 cylinder LS motor. Billet one-piece aluminum block, one-piece forged crank and one-piece cam. Uses four stock style heads. Made mainly for boats. $100,000 a pop - for the normally aspirated version !!

There have a handful of 100 mph bass boats here and a lot that will go 80. My buddy had one that was 16' 10" long and would run 86, it was a pretty exciting ride.
A couple years ago there was a boat for sale local that was powered by twin Viper engines.
