Jamie gave me the price at the time the transmission and my spot inline came up, along with the option to buy it or not.

Carefull. I used to say the same thing. But all I heard was how a god he was. For building it in the first place. How it was a privalge t9 be on a list for years and and years. And was wort a wait. How only he was the only person on on earth capable of puting
one togeather. And thus the reason for the years of waiting. Heck lot of people have moved on and don't even have same car 10 years later.......but....lets all stand in line. And bow our heads for this blessing

Yep, it sure is a pretty looking piece,

In regards to the rhetoric going back and forth, I too was once a 100% blind supporter. And, to be transparent, I had a Keisler Tremec 5spd in my car for quite a few years. In fact, a photo of my car is still on the Silver Sport website. Anyhow, for at least 9-10 years, I was always told that I was #200 on the list. My last conversation with Jamie was at the end of 2018, beginning of 2019. I looked back on this thread for my posts about talking to him. The posts are at the top of page 73, January 6 and 17th. Jamie told me I was #12 and should see a phone call in 1-2 months. The price at the time was $5475 plus shipping. You know the story.....I'm still waiting. Newest news for me, is I have started looking at the Tremec again from Silver Sport. That trans worked perfect for me in the past, and I'm sorry I sold it to wait for the 855. Oh well, live and learn.

After patiently waiting 11+ years, I decided to go with the SST. I previously ran the Keisler 5 summers from 2000-2004 in the '71 and it never missed a beat. It arrived at my house 6 days after ordering it, additional bell housing, clutch/pressure plate assy, etc...... and on top of it, saved myself $2200. The car is going back together this fall.

I feel sorry for all the people that got or are getting suckered into paying $6000 for a transmission. My T56 Magnum didn't even cost that much. The new Tremec TKX 5-speed is $2795 and is in a much smaller case so you don't have to cut the trans tunnel. Tremec will be around forever and have an enormous dealer and parts network.

Guys, do some research and save some money. Get a better product faster.


Tremec TKX
TREMEC, the leading manufacturer of manual transmissions and components, announces the release of the new TKX, a 5-speed RWD manual transmission developed solely for the aftermarket. “We listened to our customers, combined their suggestions with our OEM technology and strengthened our aftermarket line up with the addition of the TKX,” says Mike Kidd, aftermarket business unit manager at TREMEC. The all-new 5-speed, single overdrive manual transmission from TREMEC was designed, tested, and built specifically for the aftermarket.

For the development of the new transmission, TREMEC engineers took a forward-looking approach to finding the best and most efficient solution. This included universal packaging, excellent shifting performance, and extreme durability.

The three-piece aluminum housing provides outstanding structural stiffness (includes main case, intermediate plate and rear extension). Gaskets at all flanges simplify installation and eliminate fluid leaks. The transmission is designed for multiple to fit applications with three shifter locations and an overall compact, end-loaded design that provides clearance in most transmission tunnels without floor modifications. Separate GM and Ford case patterns and input configurations are available.


Internally, the TKX features a robust design with internal three-rail shift system and steel shift forks. All gears and shafts are made from special grade steel (ASTM 4615) providing increased torque carrying capacity, and a wide gear width increases gear life and a 600 lb/ft torque capacity, while at the same time, noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) performance is optimized with a gear layout to best control stress levels.
One of the key characteristics of the TKX transmission is its outstanding shift-ability at high RPM (up to 7,500) to match modern, high-performance engines. This was achieved by using multi-cone synchronizers and hybrid synchronizer rings made of sintered bronze and carbon. Additionally, a single overdrive reduces engine wear and fuel consumption for comfortable roadway driving, and the transmission os offered in multiple gear ratio configurations (See chart below). Connecting the transmission to the engine and driveshaft are a 26-spline input shaft and a 31-spline output shaft for added strength.

TREMEC has also equipped its TKX manual transmission with a high-performance short-throw billet aluminum shifter that isolates road noise, while providing clean, crisp shifts, and a built-in reverse light switch and cruise control safety switch provide additional functionality for street car applications.

Hmmm. $3k for the transmission. $800 for a new bellhousing to make it fit. $500 for a clutch to fit the Ford or GM input shaft. $300 or so for another driveshaft because the old one will likely be too long/short. Figuring out some way to run the speedometer. Possible floor modifications because there is NO Mopar application. Hard to claim no floor modifications to a car when there is no application for that transmission in a Mopar. Cutting the floor to put the shifter through since Mopars have the shifter to the side, not straight up the middle.
So you're at $4600 on something that may not fit, doesn't handle a much torque(600 in the Tremec, 700 for the GFI), and a better overdrive in the GFI. Unless you get the .68 GM version.
I'd prefer to spend the extra $1400 and unbolt one and put the other in in a matter of hours using my existing driveshaft and clutch/bell.

The price for the Tremec TKX is currently showing to be $2795. The American Powertrain bellhousing for Tremec to Mopar is listed on Summit Racing listed at around $450. SST sells what they call their lighting edition shifter with over 25 shifter positions. I think the total would come out significantly less than the $6K you would spend for the other transmission that you may or may not get for a very long time. Then there is the question of parts to fix said transmission in the future if something goes wrong or a simple rebuild is necessary.

So if you don't have the space, ability to fabricate the mounting, what is that going to cost? To quote the original cheerleader for the TKX in another thread:

"I called and inquired about what it would take to put my TKO Perfect fit kit into a different car, specifically a big block, and was told that they were specifically fitted to a certain model. I couldn't put the kit in say, an A-body or B-body, but if I wanted to put it in another E-body with a big block the only thing I would need would be a bellhousing."
Lots of folks have A and B-bodies...

I think after reading all the pros, cons, opinions, etc., I think I'm sticking with my stock A833, a 2.93 rear end, and 14" tires. whistling

Has anyone actually fitted the new Tremec and if so how was it, i would buy one in a heartbeat if i knew they would fit without cutting the car.

Tens years to move from 200 to 12 and you are still waiting almost two years later. Wow.

I imagine Passon has lost 10-20% of his waiting list just because of time. He may loose/has loose another 25-30% of his waiting list now that there is an alternative. If that alternative is proven to be a fit without cutting, the loss may go to 50-75%. That means everyone on the list moves up, lessened demand on all parties involved, and the balance of the list may be able purchase their requested transmission within the next 10 years.

I'll agree its a good looking transmission. I also know there will always be those buyers out there that want a true bolt in swap with zero changes and zero modifications required to utilize their trans. Some cars will demand it simply because of value. If those of you who want that are willing to pay they extra in time and money for that convenience, that is your prerogative. Some of us have cars that are not as valuable, do not want to pay the premium, or do not want to wait for the delivery. That's the great thing about choice. I'm glad there are options out there.
