It's impressive for sure, shame the older(pre09) 5.7 couldn't do that with out pinching the top of the piston off.

No changes to the truck but I drove it from Michigan to the top of Pikes Peak to Texas. Did some racing down there. Drove it back to Michigan. She's a trooper, I'm not nice to it.

That's awesome. Who's pistons did you use, and did you measure PTW clearance or just throw them in and go?

They're Mahle pistons and Molnar rods I think. I'll be honest, with it being a higher mileage swap I knew the pistons were going to be loose so I just hit the cylinders with a 3 jaw hone. Dropped the pistons in and felt the clearance by hand and decided it was close enough. I know they're looser than I'd like but I don't want to know the number or it'd bother me.

Understand, the drop in pistons pretty much have no choice than to err on the loose side. Are they noisy cold?

No, it sounds like a regular hemi on cold starts.
