Hi All,

Very frequent lurker, infrequent poster smile

In October 2019 my wife and I acquired a 68 GTX. I have decoded the broadcast sheet (I am very familiar with 69 and up sheets, the 68 and down are a different animal), but have some questions and I hope someone can help me out:

The car has 696 N/C Serv. With/Without Gas under the SPL CODES Section - What does this mean?

In the remarks section it has: 04 VIP OMIT WA and the rest was cut off by the seat spring - What could this mean?

My thinking is it was an executive ordered company car as it has 22 options and the above mentioned VIP? It was sold in Texas originally from what I could gather from former owners.

I attached a copy of the Broadcast Sheet for review. I love the history of these cars and I'm looking forward to learning more about the 68 Broadcast sheets.

Thank you all in advance, all response are appreciated.

according to GG's "white book"
696 = New Car Service with 5 gallons of gas
this would be a charge or ledger entry to account for the cost of having the "new car service" performed on a Chrysler owned vehicle at the dealership where the car is being "SHIPPED TO" but is not being "SOLD FROM"

Wow, that car is gorgeous, don't think I've ever seen that color combo even when they were new.

I'm sure the 1st thing on the BS was gas, which is kinda funny since they'd all have SOME fuel in them to move, load & unload.
Haven't seen that on my BS. N/C I would interpret as No Charge...

As for "omit wax", that kinda makes sense, if something was sprayed on the cars before transport and this car was being picked up from the plant.
Whether a shipping wax or coating was applied back then, I don't know.

It'll be interesting to hear from someone with plant experience...

Thank you for the input!

Yes, that's a picture of it long before we bought it. We bought it private sale from a great guy in Connecticut. We sold a 68 Charger R/T to be able to afford it. Love it so far, never thought I would own a Hemi car smile

I only have copies of the Broadcast sheet. I attached an up close shot of the remarks area. and a more recent picture of the car.

So 696 means the car was processed at a dealership but not sold thru it? I think it was an employee ordered car for a couple of reasons:

It's a loaded Hemi car which is unusual

It was built in December. If an executive ordered the car, they would have had it for the winter and I am guessing turned it in before the warm weather arrived. I think an executive would want air conditioning. My father worked for GM all his working life and told me an executive who received a company car kept it for 3-6 months or 5000 miles, which ever came first. Not sure what Chrysler did.

I have some history from past owners: It was sold to it's first owner in Texas, ended a drag car for short time and migrated to Ohio, Connecticut and now Massachusetts. Somewhere in there it ended up at a classic car dealership. The guy who started the restoration told me when he cut the paint off, it had "Exterminator GTX" lettered on the doors but there are no picture of it. Seems like an odd choice for a drag car as it would be heavy with all the options.

I really appreciate any further input!

That would be "Best of Show Automotive". Not sure what they call themselves now. They were based out of Cleveland but moved.(South Carolina maybe) The picture posted above with the car on that circular thing is how Best of Show took pictures of their cars. The owner got into legal trouble and moved the company out of Ohio.

it had a HEMI, that's all that would be required/desired to go racing drive

the automatic transmission, power steering & power windows probably have less weight difference compared to a 4-speed & DANA60

All of those dealerships were in the paperwork that came with the car. I must say, the binder that RK Motors gives out with a car purchase is very nice. I’m glad I was able to buy it from a private seller

My buddy thinks it was a zone representative’s car. Makes some since as it was optioned with a buddy seat and 3.23 gears, perfect for long high speed driving.

Thank you for all of the comments!

the question is "what was the original purpose Chrysler Corp. used this car for?": company car/promotion/other

I only know of one other "726xxx" Shipping Order # 1968 car, it's a blue 318 Charger - definitely not as "special" as this HEMI GTX - but I think the S.O.# contains the clue to its original intent

the "OMIT WAX" (if that's what is printed) leads me to think the original intent was an event, at which it would be marketed decaled/stickered up for display & adhesion was the concern

the HEMI GTX was built ~2 weeks late, but still before the Christmas holiday - so, "IF" it was an event, it would've been winter '68 (Jan./Feb.)

S.O.#
726365 early-December scheduled HEMI GTX VS. 726423 late-February scheduled 318 Charger work

That is really interesting about the 726 beginning S.O. number. Does that always indicate a Chrysler Corp use vehicle in 68?

I vaguely remember someone mentioning a "Exterminator GTX" promotional car, but it was before we bought the car so I didn't pay any attention to it, and I also maybe dreaming that statement smile

I attached a picture of the fender tag if that helps with any decoding.

I understand the 69 and up codes, but the 68 and down are very different and there is not as much information out there as the later cars from what I've found.

Thank you for all the input, this is really interesting. I welcome all comments. Would love to know the cars complete history
