Hello Moparts,

I am in the process of trying to put together a 1933 Plymouth Sedan 2-door body i picked up on craigslist a couple years ago. After digging into it, I came to realize there is almost zero support for replacement metal on these cars. This car needs a bunch of it and i am looking for advice on sourcing some or all of what you see missing here. Wheel tubs, Quarter panel lowers, Rocker panels, Door bottoms, Windshield surround. I feel confident i can handle the frame, firewall, rear panel, chop and floors. Hit me with any advice or input you have on this one:)

I missed you all.

cheers,
jon

I don't want to sound insensitive, but if you can handle a chop and everything that goes with a chop, you should be able to handle making the panels you need. There are very few choices otherwise, and those limited choices are pretty expensive. Fortunately most of what you need can be formed from flat sheet metal. You may be able to source some stuff from others, but usually most guys are not very familiar with what parts from the 30s Mopars fit other 30s Mopars.

A few years ago there was an old guy making the parts you are looking for, but I don't think he is doing it any more, and the last I checked, his website was gone.

The guys over on the HAMB message board might be able to help you, they are pretty resourceful. You will need to sign up, but its free. Do an introduction, and ask for help. There is a very active parts for sale section, and there is a parts wanted, but often its watched by scammers. The guys there are pretty hard core pre 64 traditional, so you don't want to mention a rat rod, or a modern chassis and drive train.
Good luck on your search. Gene

The Plymouth Doctor is my go to for that kind of stuff, but he only goes back to 35, maybe he knows a source?

http://theplymouthdoctor.com/

Then there is the Plymouth Owner''s group, they might be a source of leads

The HAMB is the best place I've found for automotive metal working. Drives me nuts that I can't post questions about my muscle cars though. Or even mention them for that matter.

The Garage Journal is a sister site and it has a pretty good fab forum too. https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/

Yea, well, I have a 39 Dodge pickup and a 48 Plymouth business coupe, but I can't post much about them either, because both have modern chassis and fuel injected Mopar motors.

The sad part of it is when the coupe was built, I did a build thread on it, because such things were acceptable there at that time. Recently, someone brought my build back to the top to ask questions and it got deleted! I guess as long as it was in the archives it was OK, but as soon as someone brought it back up, it was no longer on topic and they dumped it.
I still go there nearly every day, there is so much useful information there, and I've gotten to know several of the guys.

So, does anyone know if the Plymouth Doctor is still in operation? Anything dated was 2012 or 2015, don't see anything more recent. The last i heard was they closed up shop. Gene

Get hold of the guy who bought out Mitchel motor parts. in Georgia.

I was there several years back and he had A LOT of early sheet metal laying all over the place. Most of it outside so it will be surface rust . but the good part is that stuff is really heavy gauge so it might be savable

No idea what or how much or even still has any of it. But it might be worth a shot.
Either way, good luck, You gonna need it

Yes, the Plymouth Doctor had a lot of neat parts that were reasonably priced. There is a phone number listed, but i don't need anything right now, so I'm not going to call. 4 or 5 years ago I tried to buy something from him and got no where. I don't remember if there was a phone number in the ad at the time or not. Gene

That looks like quite the project. After 28 years i'm just getting my 33 2 dr. finished. it's at the upholstery shop now. I was very fortunate that my car was complete and rust free.
