Kayse's (the wife) 06 Charger Daytona has 217,000 miles so to be proactive I figured it was time to start building a replacement 5.7 Hemi for it.

The plan is to do some upgrades on the replacement engine.

I picked up a 2014 5.7 Hemi out of a truck that won't turn over.

Since it's got the Eagle heads on it they'll get used no matter what for the extra HP.
I'm thinking a 6.1 SRT Intake on it too.

What I'm trying to decide is whether I should used the 2014 block or use a 2004 truck block that I have?

I know that the later cranks use a different tone ring which won't work in a 2006.

The later block also has the VVT can phaser which I wouldn't need in a 2006.

Is there any reason why the 2014 block would be a better choice knowing that it's going in a 2006 Charger?

Any thought or opinions on this???

Thanks!!!

It would let you use an eagle intake that is better and cheaper than a 6.1 intake. Also you could use a cheap 6.4 SRT cam in it.

Thanks for the reply.

From your response I take it the 6.4 cam doesn't fit in the earlier 5.7 block?

Isn't the Eagle intake the variable runner length?

If so, What does that affect?

The eagle intake has ports similar size to the 6.1 but it is plastic and waaaay better at keeping the air cool than the aluminum 6.1 intake, this allows it to flow more air molecules when hot like in an actual running engine and cooler air is less likely to detonate so you can run more compression or cheaper fuel. The car version is not variable runners butt the truck is, the truck is an even better intake butt may not fit under a car hood or may need a scoop or bulge to clear. I am running 12.1 compresison in my ram 1500 with pump fuel and hardly ever get a ping picked up by the knock sensors, if I run 87 or 89 it will pick up a little more knock. I want to find a BGE intake for my truck for cheap now, I have one and it looks way better but the top of it was burned so I got to find a good one. The 6.4 SRT intake may be a good choice as it will clear the hood and have bigger better ports than the eagle. Any intake but the eagle may need wire extensions or something to make sensors where they can be plugged in and they may not all work easily with your engine covers either.

The cheap very good 6.4 SRT cam will not fit 08 and earlier 5.7s nor will it fit 6.1s.

Is the 5.7 truck intake different from the BGE intake?

I've got the 2014 truck 5.7 intake that has the variable runners, it doesn't look like it would easily fit on the Charger.

The throttle body is pointed up rather than forward.

What's the best way to deal with the different tone ring on the crank?

Does it swap easy or is there a problem using the 2004 crank in the 2014 block?

I had suggested using a stroker kit for more cubes, but the wife didn't feel it was necessary (it is her car after all).

You can use the early crank if you get a spacer they sell, I think I seen em at hughes engines. The tone wheel bolts on and off but you got to have the crank out or un bolt it and cut it.

The BGE intake has slightly bigger straighter ports than the eagle and the throttle body points off to the side instead of up.

I should slow down with the information as the truck intakes also don't fit the front timing cover so your best bet is probably the 6.4 SRT8 intake.
