I thought everybody knew that the world wasn't flat. If it was, cats would have knocked everything over the edge by now...

Saw on the News that he'd died, but they didn't say how... There is a video. I appeared like the recovery parachute(s) deployed prematurely, while the rocket was still in full thrust. The chutes were torn off by the speed and rocket exhaust, leaving nothing to slow the descent at the end of the flight.

"People ask me why I do stuff like this," Hughes said toward the end of the video, "and basically it's just to convince people they can do things extraordinary with their lives, and maybe it pushes people do things that they normally wouldn't do with their life, and maybe it'll inspire someone else." See, that sentiment, I totally get, and totally respect. Trying to prove the Earth is flat, and dying while trying, on the other hand...

Some great Twitter comments: "The Earth is still round. Mad Mike Hughes is flat." "A $40 drone would have gone higher in the sky and streamed the answer straight to his phone." "Rest in pieces." "Hopefully they can recover the black box and figure out what went wrong." "He just found out how flat Earth really is." "He did not live." "So is the Earth flat or just him?" "Did you double knot the parachute?"
