Would be a decent engine in a reg cab 2wd.

I like lots of bottom-end torque and the 3.6 is really dead off the line. They don't make any power until you rev the pee out of them. So, if you add a thousand pounds of quad cab and 4wd to one it will suck the life out of the 3.6. twocents

But, it is available in everything and supposedly in 2019 they made some changes to address the lack of low-end torque. shruggy Go waste some Useless salesman's time and test drive a few. drive

I'd get a 2WD 3.8 Wrangler and trans.

A Dodge Intrepid's 3.5 V6 mounted in the bed of a 81-84 Dodge Rampage may make a wheel stander with no weight up front. wink

A turbo 4g63 Mitzy mounted to a 'Baby' 904 would also kick some butt.

Watch out for the year of the 3.6 and when the lifter/head/camshaft problem was TRULY fixed with the more "robust" parts. Chiefly on the left side bank, but we've had some on the right side too. First was stated it was pre '14 I believe, but I do believe some post '13's had the problem too.

That issue aside, what a silky smooth and powerful V6!

Is this a ALL PARTS FAILURE ? Or just select parts that fail at certain mileage ?

It affected “a small population of 2011-13 engines (estimated by Mopar at 7500 but who really knows). Best information points to a casting problem that resulted in a clogged coolant passage in the left head, leading to wear and valve train noise.

The details are sketchy, but it does appear to be a rare occurrence. I have. 12 Rubicon with the 3.6. Power wise it totally beats the 3.8 which was really a dog.

The 3.6 also has the wonderful (insert sarcasm) oil cooler nestled in the engine valley that suffers from cracks if you think negative thoughts....so don’t. I replaced my leaker and hope it never cracks again. To me that’s the engine’s biggest quirk.

Believe me when I tell you this. It goes past 2013 3.6 engines, at least in Chargers! I'm telling you this from a large sample size. Granted, this is in fleet cars, but also occurred fairly early on. Chrysler also very good about replacing at no charge, and has extended out warranty. But I can tell you with certainty I've listened to many post '13 V6 Chargers tick away on that left bank. Otherwise very nice engine. What I can't say for sure is what year it was definitively corrected.

Interesting. I’ve heard that once the engine got some miles on them....like maybe 30-50k, if the problem hadn’t surfaced the engine was probably fine? Do you agree with this? The theory is that only some of the head castings were affected and therefore the majority of them were fine from the start.

I know of some 3.6's that happened at about 80k miles or so, but I can't say I KNOW of a lot of those. But you're definitely correct that many I am aware of were relatively early on, but I'm not sure of the mileage. The really good thing is that they are being repaired with no argument or cost.
