What's is the quickest way to verify that a 5.7 hasn't dropped a valve in the junkyard? Can you remove the throttle body and run a magnet into the intake to check for shrapnel or are you better off buying one of those bore scopes and removing the intake to check down the ports?

Is it still in vehicle? What kind of vehicle? If it's a car, you remove 4 more bolts, the whole intake will easily pop off.

Yes they're still installed, there are 2 Chrysler 300s and a Durango.

there is more than 4 bolts butt yes it is very easy to pull the intake and with the awesome port configuration you can see the entire back of the valve. If your taking a chance on an un-known like a pull apart engine get one from the car, the Durangos have a cowling that dumps rain water on the top of the engine, when the intake gaskets get worn out (flatened) that water can run into an intake port and the engine will hydrolock on start up and break rods, sometimes they come out the side of the block, sometimes you can just throw a new rod in and move on with life.

If the vehicle is smashed up, it was running and driving when the accident occurred which is a good sign.

I simply meant instead of pulling the 4 bolts which hold the throttle body, pull the 8 intake bolts (or maybe there is 10).

OP-best of luck man
