1969RR OP super stock 1 Joined: Aug 2009 Posts: 740 Anderson, IN	Working on a customer's 1991 Jeep Grand Wagoneer with an AMC 360, not a Chrysler 360. I'm needing to replace the exhaust manifolds. Customer found some manifolds at Summit, but they don't designate AMC or Chrysler. I don't know if they are interchangeable or not. He had purchased an intake for the Jeep and it must have been for a Chrysler 360, 'cause it will not fit. Dorman lists manifolds, but again doesn't differentiate AMC or Chrysler. Maybe they are interchangeable, does anyone know for sure that can help me. Thanks in advance

My understanding is the small outer bolts were a change starting in 1979. There was another change in design - which I don't recall but I think its mid 70s. OMIX had them new with the heat stove. However my experience with OMIX is they don't spend a lot of effort on QC. I decided to rebuild mine. The exhaust manifold bolts used since late 1969 early 70 are unique. Its was an early change for this generation AMC V-8 and there was service bulletin to dealerships.

Mattax top fuel Joined: Feb 2010 Posts: 1,645 Phila. Pa.	Intake manifold on the AMC 360 needs the heat shield. Might have to take the one off the old intake. Valve train is another obvious difference. Some stuff that is not AMC: The ignitionsystem is Motorcraft. Alternator is Delco - should be 12SI. Starter for '91 may be Chrysler. If not its Ford. The starter may still have a remote 'ford type' solenoid, but by '91 there also is a Chrysler type starter relay. Transmission is Torqueflite 727.

But AMC may have done that to make it easier to remove broken bolts. (Keeping the hole for easy-out removal centered?)

It apparently explains this was to reduce incidents of the bolts backing out. Having a hollow area creates more tension while staying in the elastic range for grade 5 bolts.
