Anyone come out with a timing set to do away with the cam phaser on VVT motors yet? I was hoping something would come out after SEMA or PRI but have not heard or seen anything. I'm really surprised no one has done this yet. And I'm not talking about the kit that uses a non-vvt cam in a vvt engine.

Yes, he made a belt drive. Requires an external oil pump.

This Spring Ric (ric3xrt) is coming out with his set up some time in March, He's got 25k miles on one the of prototypes and 12k on another He's also going to offer a service on rebuilding and setting the phasre up so it goes from 5* advance to 24* retard instead of 0* to 29* .

Here's a video he did on the stock phaser

Here's the BGE on 5.7 block video

Im building a Procharger motor and torn between a 5.7 non-vvt or a BGE block. I have both blocks. I have a billet 3.795 crank so its 370 in the 5.7 or 401 in the BGE. I really want the extra cubes of the BGE but don't know about the timing set up. Im a machinist so I am considering building a gear drive. Steff and Jesel both make belt drives so that's something to consider also. Is Ric3xrt set up a modified piece or will it be manufactured by someone? Thanks for the info!

Go with the BGE, this system is not that complicated (I am having some trouble with one right now but have done a bunch of trouble free ones), you get more cubes, less valve shrouding and a much sturdier block.

Modified piece uses a Progear 4000 set for a 6.1 ,it's not hard to make, Dave's right about the VVT once it's locked it's not going any where, I've seen Ric lock them with a roll pin,

Thanks for the reply's. I'm a machinist so I can make whatever I need. Seriously thinking about a gear drive that will fit under the stock cover. Mounting holes already exist for the mounting plate so I don't think it would be difficult.

Just need to put a crank in the block and figure out the crank gear offset and I will have the gear drive complete. I will post pics when I'm done.

Yes, fast street and strip. BGE 428 with an F3D106 Procharger. No vvt.

I've been running vvt locked for 29,900 miles now. Using the Comp phaser lock kit. I degreed the cam by broaching new keyways in the lower sprocket.

Here's a couple pics of the gear drive. Have to finish hone the crank gear and cut recess for the oil pump. You get the idea though.

You plan on coming to market with that? I am looking for something I can spin to 8-8,500 rpm reliably.

I want to see how it works and the longevity of it first. Appreciate you asking though.
