Im like thinking.... to myself.

well he knows I just got the money order. He was asking me for a favor...
however, we don't really know each other except thru this car forum. I do see he
has a very long active post thing here of being reliable person.
I would have if I knew him better - so good thing I was hesitant with this one.

I tried to get the message here PM - no response so I went back to my email and said
sure to call me -

then I get back almost immediately -

response was - Im out of an area and cannot call - so please help with the gift card.

Somebody somewhere, (I think in Roosha), has pirated my email address. I never put it in direct view in correct context yet somehow someone got mine and now I'm routinely getting "returned/rejected" emails that have been sent with my address listed as origin. I can only guess it's someone trying to get past some firewalls or filters with an embedded trap of some sort, most of the emails were sent to some apparently german addresses, ( .de ) extension. Some days over 80 rejects filling up my inbox. What a PIA.

SCAM SCAM SCAM do not bother getting a gift card. It isn't him asking it's a hacker.

man that sucks!

I had many issue problems with my YAHOO email account over a year ago from craigslist adds I think.
got rid of that address and don't use yahoo no more.

it took some time to back up and save what I had changing everything over.

I also backed up my hard drive files, pics, docs - Then I wiped out hard drive and re installed windows for a fresh start.

now as a habit, I back up all often - just in case -- fingers crossed -

another thing just came to me -

many years ago - at least 2006-ish I saw a car for sale on ebay in Washington State.

started emailing about details, he asked me to send a pic of my car. Which I did, he asked if I would like to see another car he had to sell. All sounded good, so I said sure - send the pic.

once I had opened the file - I had lost complete control of my computer - for days - I was not getting emails - no response from friends ?

my son installed a tracker program - we traced him to Alberta, Canada -
took some time, but off of his IP address - got his exact home address with phone number - then calling to tell him to back off -
he was surprised and asked how we found out, then laughed.

in that case - not from over seas - just some young person with nothing else to do.

I concur.

You emailed him, so your email address was in his address book. Then the hack read all addresses and sent messages to them, including you.

He should really change his password now wink

If you ever find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

Bingo. I've been getting emails from hacked addresses for years. It's a way to get around your spam box. You have to assume your daily mailbox is full of attempts to rip you off and act accordingly. Roll over the senders name and see if the address looks right or if an address even pops up. Any questions about it, dump it, don't open it.
