Well, was trying to take the dipstick out of my 75 360 motor, and yes it broke of right at the motor, nothing to grab onto,
I've tried , I can get it to turn but can't pull it out,
Anybody have a sure fire way of getting this out.
Thanks Dave

I had a similar experience with my big block a few months ago (thread is on here somewhere). Mine was really stuck hard, so even with the pan off I had an interesting time dislodging the stub.

But if yours still turns, it should be loose enough to pull. Can you tap it and thread a bolt in, then pull with slide hammer? Or file down a bolt to a taper and turn that into the hole.
The trick is making it tight enough to get a good purchase but not so tight that the tube expands and seizes in the block.

I agree, dropping the pan may be the best way to drive it out from below. Hope it works out easier.

Dip a tap in grease and thread it in the remains of the tube.
put a set of vice grips on it and with a small hammer from below, tap it out.
Ive done several big blocks this way

Thanks Guys, keep them coming,
I just re gasketed the motor painted it and put it back in,
took off the added on air and found out they moved the dipstick
around , going back to stock and found out it was in the way of the alternator,
if I would have known would have knocked it out when I had the pan off
I got it to move with an easy out but cannot pull it up and out,
lets forget sure fire and go with innovative.
Thanks again Dave
keep the ideas coming!!!!

Tubes don't have handles.

Personally, knock it into the pan and put another tube in.

I would take a narrow diameter sharp nose punch and try to punch one side into the center and see if I could pull it out after wards wit a set of needle nose pliers scope twocents

Is it the dipstick or the tube? If it's the tube and it turns, a tap probably won't work. How about a small 90 degree pick.

Ya sorry, it is the tube that broke off, the wife suggested a crochet hook,

i would worry more about a broken hook or pick in the pan than a small chunk of tube.
i have used a greased tap before [i think CAB mentioned this ? shruggy], but i forget what size.

What GTX6070 said. I just did one a couple of weeks ago on a 318, I barely tapped the tap in with a hammer and pulled it out with vise grips, worked like a charm!

360? Stock pan? Don't they have a dipstick guide welded in the the pan? Knock the thing down in and you probably won't get the stick to go in.

If it turns, a tap will go in so far before it starts to turn the stub. At that point, turn and pull at the same time. It may come out. Otherwise drop the pan.

If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

Tubes ? .. he’s talking about the STICK ..not the tube tsk

I’ve had to do this same operation on a 3.8 V6 ....

Just pull the tube out of the block and then push the broken stick out !
