Looking at a buying a brand new set of older 1321-16 comp pro magnum chromoly rockers. Any opinions on these or issues? I believe the new ones are the ultra pro magnum rockers, updated with a black oxide finish. Thanks in advance.

The primary difference is.......The new version are bushed, the old version are not.

Run reasonable spring loads and always use muscle car type zinc infused oil and you should be fine.

I ran the SB version of these, so 1420-16 here. These were riding on a Hughes Engines sourced rocker arm shafts which had banana groves in them...ended up having a good amount of bluing on the shafts. The rocker arms never got hurt, but when you see colour like that you get worried (well, I did). Top end oiling was great, some on the forum suggested an issue between rocker arm and shaft material...leading to possible gauling.

For what it's worth, if you are buying new why not buy the bushed ones instead?

If I was buying today I would pick up the 1622-16 for the SB application.

I would get the newer ones as well, just smart as there are replacements if needed.

As for the SB 1420 there were two versions of these, one a bit of lesser quality and had the roller wheel held on with a copper/brass looking pic hit on both sides. The other ones had a removable pin.

I love the older and im my case the 1420-s from the 90-s, 155 on the seat, 455 open and 7500 shifts on a non bushed rocker, cant beat it.

From time to time a single will pop up on ebay and I snag them, but never had to use one yet.

They are excellent. Purchased a set last year along with real pushrods, and all my valve train issues disappeared.
