BINGO!!!! Florida has 1000 people a week moving here, mostly from high tax states like NY, NJ, MD, etc. Guess what will eventually happen here. Just another reason to GTF out of here.

Its a crazy ugly cycle, sorta like the jock itch I couldnt get ride of in high school for like 3 months during one summer.

No disrespect meant to anyone living there, but who would really want to move to Chicago unless work related and had to? Yes ive spent time there and had a sis in law work there and fly home every weekend, ya dont see vacation ads to Chicago anyplace do we? Ok to visit though.

I've seen reports in recent times of record numbers of tourists to Chicago. Myself, I live in the nearby suburbs and at this point in my life have no desire to venture across the city border. If the car jackers and smash and grab phone stealers don't get you, the city will, with red light cameras and speed cameras all over. And big sales taxes on restaurants. I can live without! Not sure why anyone would want to vacation here....
I could really use a car trailer, but don't have any room to park it on my property, and given our stagnant or falling house values here, along with every rising property taxes, I will not be "investing" in a larger place in this state. So they won't be getting any big trailer plate fees from me at least.
I am trying to figure out how to move from this dying state, but don't worry about me dragging this states garbage politics with me to my new home. I'm proud that I can honestly say that in several elections in recent times, not a single candidate I voted for won! penguin

Hell I can't understand why anyone would want to live in downtown Orlando. Lol. But I'm glad they do. At least I know they won't be flocking to anywhere near my new home.

Those whining about high license plate fees in IL haven't seen anything yet! Last I heard, there were over 400 new or increased fees that took effect on Jan 1st, most of which we probably haven't even heard about yet. There is suppose to be another 500 new or higher fees scheduled to take effect on July 1st. The clowns in charge now are just getting rolling, they have been taking classes from the leaders in CA and have a fresh new bag of stuff to dump on it us poor unsuspecting fools that are stuck living here.

No need to worry about moving, this new fee structure epidemic will spread across the entire country sooner or later, one only has to look at the federal government for a vision of the future. No one will be able to get around it. Gene

IL and CA are worse than I thought !

Again ... all this is done to feather their own beds ! A regular police officer or firefighters can retire with a 70/80k pension(for the rest of their life) after putting in 20. Does your job provide that ? Making fiberglass hoods and bumpers sure didn’t do that for me !!

I bought those trailers over 15 years ago when I had a good job, now they are old and need lots of work. May have to park them as they aren't worth putting plates on!

See, there is the problem with oppressive Governments. They stick it to people so bad, the people find ways around the fees and the Government ends up going backwards, financially. They know this going in but are too arrogant to admit it. They act as if the public is just going to keep taking the abuse.

Will the underfunded pension funds in IL and KY ever be brought up to workable levels?

I doubt it.
Taxes are going to go up at least 30% or some kind of default will eventually occur.

CA and CT are also really bad on pensions and general debt but (Presently) have much richer residents, but residents can leave states.

Can a state do different?

Read about SD being almost debt free.

From 1865 to 1898 KY was run so badly that in 1898 a new constitution was written that prohibited any state debt being taken on for more than one year. Starting in 1950s this was just ignored.

"CHICAGO — Illinoisans are on the hook for nearly $250 billion in unfunded public pension liabilities — more than $18,000 per resident — according to a credit rating agency. That's the latest estimate from Moody's Investors Service, which on Tuesday put Illinois' unfunded pension debt at $240 billion. Sep 19, 2019"

$18,000 per resident! And that includes both income tax paying AND non-income tax paying residents. Which means the debt for those that will actually pay for this mess is much higher. But the reality is that there is no way that the bulk of that money will ever be able to be collected. I mean, come on, who on earth believes that Illinois residents will be able to pay an additional $18,000+ each in taxes the next few years. It is just not going to happen. And the consequences will be catastrophic, particularly for the pensioners.

And it is particularly mind boggling that the vast majority of the new taxes are being spent in new ways. They are not going towards the debt already accumulated.

And for those interested in this kind of thing, check this out:

As I did my due dillegance for what states to move to I found that there are four states who are the best at using taxes and have no or little unfunded liability, and those are in this order; South Dakota, Nebraska, Florida, and Tennessee. Since I have no reason to move further into the cold abyss I am left with Florida and Tennessee. I go to Florida a lot, no way I could live there, so that leaves Tennessee. Guess where I have been spending a lot of my time lately scoping out...

It IS spooky ... isn’t it ?? 👽

Lots of interesting tidbits in here ...

250B in unfunded in IL ? I heard somewhere that it’s over TRIPLE THAT in the Golden State !

This is a house of cards that is built by our so called public servants that are able to vote themselves a pay raise. And they have a REAL CLEVER way of doing that !

I have a few friends who’ve moved to TN in recent years. Sounds attractive there but isn’t booze expensive/liquor only at government stores?
Just an example of how a state digs itself into an impossible hole. An old friend of mines dad was a high school teacher. My friend was telling me recently that his dad, who is now around 90 years old, has been collecting a pension for more years than years he taught. And with his government pensions annual cost of living increases, his dad’s annual pension payments are far more than his income when he was working ever were.
To add insult to injury, the pensions are based on the average of the last 3 years income, and a game the school districts like to do, is give teachers approaching retirement really big raises their final years to boost their impending pension payments. How nice of them, just send the bill to the taxpayers.
And after it started becoming very apparent this pension burden isn’t going to be sustainable, the legislators shrugged their shoulders and said the state constitution guarantees that promised state pension payments can never be decreased, so there is nothing they can do. I guess they better start building mints and printing currency, because printing money is the only way they are going to be able to get enough money to meet their state constitution required obligations!
I look forward to sitting on my front porch in another state watching the state collapse from a comfortable distance!

All they would need to do it eliminate the bloated salaries, waste, and scamming and the infrastructure could be rebuilt 100 times over. With careful and prudent budgeting, tax revenue from decades and decades ago (percentages) were designed to maintain and eventually replace.

Facts are stubborn things.
