Lately I’ve been acquiring a few tools to work with in my garage. Most of what I have bought is older Snap On stuff because that is mostly what I have that has some age on it. But it seems to me people advertise Snap On tools, apparel, collectibles and promotional items suggesting there are people who just collect Snap On stuff and just display it with no intention to use it. Do you know people who have a collection of Snap On stuff.

My buddy that rebuilds Transmissions has been selling some of his snap on and prototype stuff for the last year in pa. Average price around 5.00 a socket or wrench. A younger kid finally showed up two weeks ago and loaded up a couple of buckets.

I keep an eye out for vintage stuff. Vintage local stuff is even better.

Some history about Vacuum Grip & Snap-On at www.collectingsnapon.com/index.php?page=pliers/Pliers

I have found a few pieces so far & they still work just fine. :-)

I have a lot of Snap On tools.. The dealer I worked at in the late 80's had the Snap On truck stop by once a week.

I have some MAC hand tools also. Are they still around?

One of the local pawn shops has good prices on them. I have visited pawn stores in other cities and was astounded at what they ask for any merchandise. I get what they have when I visit. Between standard and metric tools that I need, I can always find stuff.

Also local auction houses are handling estate sales online. I find good buys there as well. I haven't bought off a truck since the 80's.

I bought a 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 inch S&K ratchet sets and open end wrenches from a local hardware store when I was 17 (47 years ago) and still have most of them. A local PPG paint store still exchanges my broken sockets and ratchets.

Pawn shops ? Glad you’re having good luck with them - I’ve had ZERO with them except for DVDs ! And that’s gone now ... used to be 10 for 5$ ... now it’s 3 for 5$ in most places ...

And they give then poor saps that pawn them - 10 CENTS EACH down

Collecting Snap On is a real thing. I have a lot of vintage Snap On, boxes, hand tools, etc. Most of it I bought new by me off the truck years ago. And still used everyday.

If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

my snapon collection consists of a complete 1/4" and 3/8" drive socket sets, plus a couple of long 1/2" drive ratchets.
this stuff was bought off the truck from 68-72 when i worked at the local body shop. i paid the items weekly when the truck stopped in.
still use at least weekly, and no failures yet !
one socket is missing, and i know where it's at, but i can't get to it without a MAJOR shuffle of "stuff". laugh2 i have the location marked on a box that is in the area the socket isat so i don't forget !

don't know what the snapon version costs, but i bought the chinesium brand for $12, and they really work good !
i was surprised to say the least, but for all the more i will use 'em in my days now, they will work for me.
if a guy was gonna use something like this daily, the snapon version may be the way to go.
however, it would be interesting to compare the snapon and the chinesium version side by side to see how they are made and how they work.
