Bought an old ‘72 truck project that’s got no title & sat since the early ‘90s.
I’m in Oklahoma & I can get a court order done but I sign a notarized form that says I know it’s not stolen & there is no liens against it.
Is there somewhere I can check to verify that is correct & it’s clean?

There are a few sties on the web that you can punch in your vin number and it will tell you if there is a problem with that vin. I don't have that info on this computer, but I found them with a google search, before they became an advertising agency. Gene

iagree I do the same thing, but go see the NCDMV Inspector. In NC, the inspector has to come and verify the VIN when we buy a car from out of state. I bought a 65 Barracuda out of GA a while back, and got them to check it out before I went to get it. GA doesn't issue titles for cars that old, but he coached me thru the whole process and I now have a title in my name. up

Technically there is no way you can know that. The opposite however is possible, you can know it is stolen, such as if you or an associate stole it.
More likely it says/means you have no knowledge that a reasonable person would know that it is stolen, and a reasonable person would make some effort, such as conferring with a legit third party to research records regarding title/lien/theft records/status.

If done, then worst that can happen, is you lose the truck no jail time. biggrin..

Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

You can try the National Insurance Crime Bureau online VIN check database:

https://www.nicb.org/

I used it once a few years ago; IIRC it might be limited as to how far it goes back, but checking it might be enough to constitute due diligence for purposes of filling out an affidavit by a civilian.

Insurance agent doesn't have access to that info, and an insurance company itself is not permitted to access/share information in these cases due to privacy concerns.

NCIC, NICB would all be good places to start. Getting info on a lein might have to be obtained through the state, though. Rarely are insurers involved in situations that also involve a mechanic's lein.
