Hi, can anyone recommend a good front windshield rubber seal for 1978 Dodge W150. I had a new windshield installed with crappy Chinese seal that now I have air leaks coming into the cab.

I have bought them from Precision and Steele Rubber Products. Both are too small, check Precisions website for an installation video. Either way the buffoon I had install it couldn't figure it out and kept trying to tell me the opening was too big, What a freekin' idiot for someone that has been doing auto glass work for 30 years. Anyway he ended up cutting the seal at the bottom center and filling the 1.5" gap with urethane. I still have two Steele seals I'm going to use for my 74 and my 93 I just need to call the guy that actually knows what the hell he is doing. Bottom line is they are all too small and it takes special care and sealer around the lip and glass to get them to seal correctly. They still don't look original in the corners, especially at the bottom. So if anyone knows of a better fitting seal I am all ears.

EDIT Find a good glass guy, not a Safelite kid but someone that does hot rods and custom cars as well as exotics, Those are the guys you need.

So true. The glass guy that did mine was here 4 hours and got it done but told me never again on an old vehicle. Did the windshield, quarter glass, and rear window. He was pissed when he he left. Hard to find glass guys that know the old stuff.

You can also try to find someone that does more commercial trucks, as they used rubber gasket long after everyone else stopped. The problem is if you glass, molding and insert moldings are off, it makes for a difficult and frustrating install. A 72-93 truck shouldn't be hard if the parts fit and you have a tool for the locking strip.

Did they use the correct windshield bedding compound? If not chances are itll leak no matter what. Rubber doesnt conform perfectly to a spot welded pinch flange. Just went thru this with my 67 Jeep Gladiator. The 3M stuff is messy but cleans up easily with mineral spirits.

With the windshield out the welded pinch seam needs some prep work. It should be fixed if rusted out. then a few coats of sandable primer and sanded down so its smooth. Then the 3M paint on Butal rubber sealant painted on and dried, before the new gasket is slid on. I then slowly lift the gaskets edging and smeer some of the sealer under.

Now getting the glass back into the channel you will be able to use some of the language skills you leaned as a teenage kid. I used Rylube rubber lubricant in the past. A dull putty knife with the corners rounded over helps lift the gasket around the glass. Lots of fiddly work going back and forth to seat it all around.

precision windshield seal worked in my 78, it is too small but if you get it good and warm and stretch it out a good bit it will work, not an easy task for sure

This^^^

When I am mounting my own tires for my 650cc scooter I put the 155/65 14 Car tire in a oven I made to cure power coating. I set it at 100 Deg'sF for 25 minuets and it slides on the motorcycle rim so much easier.
