Just curious for those running a fender exit turbo setup how loud they are. I’m putting a turbo on my Duster, junkyard 360, and am debating between fender exit or running under the car? It’ll be raced and street driven a lot. I just don’t want to do it twice so to speak.
Thanks

The worst part about a street driven car with no muffler and turbo, is not the whine /whistle , not the main pipe sound level, but the horrible, obnoxious sound of the wastegate dump. Imagine a single 2” exhaust leak under high pressure. It’s a sick sound that is very annoying. Not to mention the fact that on the street, your wastegate will be set to open more often than at the track. The exhaust out of the gate dump has no sound buffering from the turbo.
My vote(based on experience) is a big NO.

I see it a lot on drag week cars. While the cars don't seem so loud those guys often wear ear muffs on the road.

I think you have to take the noise out of context. At drag week or at the track they don't seem so loud because there is several more loud or louder cars nearby. How loud is it when you are the only hot rod around? Thats what makes me want to run the exhaust out the back on mine when I eventually put a Turbo on it. I would likely pipe it to my two tailpipes but put a big boost actuated exhaust dump on it.

Mines 5” out the pass front fender.

Dumping it under the car is trashy, and could be dangerous when you push the headgasket out of the 360 and create a garden hose of water out the exhaust.
