It's a Slant, throw some bearings at it & go...
And a new oil pump , it will probably be scored ..
Rope seal ??? that's a slant it's got 7 mains . someone lost a rag it appears
My punishment for changing the oil in it. Looks like I can get rod bearings from Advanced for $24 for a set. Autozone wants $11.99 per rod. Can't get the mains to come up on Advanced. They have a crappy website.
I am going to pull one of the mains to see what it looks like. I already have the new pump. Also have one that appears to have been changed on another engine.
Time to get greasy before I go to work at 1.

More details please about the 5% off?? Is there a code you need to enter? My local old Mopar club (CPOC) used to have a discount at NAPA, but I lost the code over the years...
Use this discount code 14282251053590 Enter into "Where do you hear about RockAuto". Good for 5% off up to April 5th...

Looks like Rug I once found a brown paper towel wrapped around mine. It got blown in the engine from a pressure wash job. Didn't hurt the engine though.

could it be part of the oil filter????
Nope, it is definately cloth. I didn't have a chance to play with it today.
I do want to Spray and Wash it just for the heck of it. It is probably a shop rag.

I am headed out to the shop to disassemble the engine some more. Pull the pump, and the crank. I looked for Emery cloth and found 1" wide on a roll with 320 grit. I was really wanting a sheet. I can't find cotton sash cord to turn the cloth. Can I accurately mic the journal with a vernier caliper with a gauge? I don't want to go too small. BTW new standard Federal Mogul rod bearings are $3.99 each!! If you buy a set it is $49.98!! Fuzzy math! Should I plastigauge the mains to decide on changing them?

Decided to check prices on machine work. $70 to grind and polish from a small shop.
Waiting on pricing from a Mopar onlt guy near here that has all the equipment at home.

Got of the phone with the machine shop. Rear main was .060 and would have to be welded. (add $70!) They have another crank there that is .030 under and ready to go. Right size for the 74 converter. $70
No wonder the rear main was leaking so bad!

Okay, it looks bad, but don't give up. Try some good detergent and a nice long delicate cycle. You may get lucky and get a few more uses out of that rag. Good luck! (Sorry, couldn't resist )

Had a 440 in my Imp that snapped a main cap bolt.It started to clatter a bit and I tore it down and found a headless bolt in the pan.Screwed up some bearing rods and crank. After that I replace all the main bolts and also the head bolts.Rocky
