A buddy of mine saw one of these setups in a new Ram with the 3.6L. It has an electric assist motor that adds a bunch of torque??? I've never heard of these before.

I've worked on these since they were prototype. They feature a MGU, (motor generator unit) and a auxiliary 48 volt battery/control unit, (BPCM). The MGU can add torque assist going down the road. It also restarts the engine in the stop/start mode. The normal starter is used for initial startup. The MGU charges the BPCM. The BPCM controls charging of the normal 12 volt battery. All modules communicate with each other on CAN Bus.

So compared to a Ram with a 5.7 V8 with MDS
at 70 mph on a level blacktop highway,
how much better in MPG would an equal weight Ram with 3.6 V6 E-Torque get?

(Infolinks made it extremely annoying to post even this simple question)

dvw, any idea how many of these are being sold? Like do 25% of new Rams have this, or are they really isolated?

I don't know about y'all, but I really dislike vehicles that have the shut-down feature when you come to a stop. I'll bet there is hardly any mileage advantage either.
