Can't the levers on the tranny be put on the other way around to make it a more normal shift pattern?

Well the three levers and no extra lever off the side tell me it's made for a Nash 5 speed. Looks like a very early Long shifter built by Leonard Long himself. What gear it goes into by push or pull is determined by the position of the levers on the transmission. Now I have seen this type of shifter mounted on the front of a Nash when used in an altered or or some other weird cars they used to build back in the day. Gus
