Don't do it! Looks like someone got so close to finishing their project then just gave up.

Well, car is done and graphics are painted SEM Hot Rod black. And I love the look. (Black vinyl top will be going back on too.)

To add patina: strip all paint/primer off down to bare metal. Deliver vehicle to Michigan - park in driveway for a year - then ship vehicle back to AZ., & clearcoat over surface rust. Yeah - that's what everybody really wants.

VSTwister, that looks great. When I first read your thread starter, I thought you were contemplating painting the entire vehicle in a flat or satin finish. So basically, you went with a factory-type setup. When my '72 Cuda is painted some day, it will need to have the V21 hood paint treatment done, since it was not a tape stripe for the blackout.
I've heard many claim that the original paint for blackout on the Mopars was Oganisol, which is heavily textured (Oganisol was discontinued years ago BTW). I can say with certainty that the Organisol was NOT used on all Mopar blackouts as some claim. For example, my first car was a 1970 Cuda that I purchased in 1976 & it was all original paint. The tail panel finish was not a rough, textured finish. It was a smooth satin-like finish. I have also seen AAR's & T/A's that were original, & the hoods & fender tops were finished the same as my Cuda tail panel.

Yeah I was confused by your responses here lol. Someone else assumed I meant the entire car in satin black. I meant just as you see it now, and questions on application and more importantly, care of this type paint combo when it's done. My best guess at this point is traditional paste wax ok for the gloss, avoid the black with this of course, and use a spray on/wipe off type for the satin areas (which isn't as durable or long lasting but at least we have something now. Meguire makes one for instance.)
I used what many recommended and my painter also did. The SEM Hot Rod Black (or Trim Black is supposed to be the same in rattle cans). I'm happy with the results and my car is not original so accuracy is not critical there. I didn't want flat black, but a satin finish just like I have.
Thanks!
