Yeah that's always the problem with customized stuff vs. restored stock cars.

Fads and trends change, and yesterday's cutting edge build is tomorrow's dated looking, undervalued money pit. Custom is great if you are going to keep it forever, but everyone's taste is different and if you want to sell it not all buyers will like your personal style...

very true indeed. however, if the BUYER likes the style, it can be a GREAT buy at mere pennies on the dollar.

The street rod thing is proof of the value of timeless design over this year's fad.
A few of the ones I saw on TV were...let's just say, thoroughly unappealing.
I'm still amused by the number of Vettes that cross the block at every auction, must be 1/3 of production.

I was pretty surprised that '70 B5 GTX only went to 45K (IIRC) but there wasn't much info given on it.
Nice Q1 '68 Dart GTS 383/4-speed just did 50K.
I'd like the auctions to spend more time correctly describing the cars, rather than hyping themselves and their lifestyle swag.

It's a 440 4bbl auto car. I think it was overpriced at 45k.

If some areas aren't correct, or there are problems requiring significant $$ outlay to correct, maybe 30-35 is all the money.
Depends on #s, quality of restoration, etc.

Another thing when looking at auction prices is the 10% added to hammer price for the auction house.
So, 45 plus another 4.5 and you're at least nudging top dollar for that combo, even considering how popular B5 is.
And at 50 for the GTS + 5, that's 55, which is strong for a Dart, though Rhinodart's certainly more of an expert on Darts than I am.
Ultimately, auction sales are a dartboard #, subject to buyer knowledge, actual condition, and influence by either party-time or weenie-contest
