From today's local paper....

King of Prussia company set to buy Maple Grove Raceway in Berks County
• By Keith Smoker Reading Eagle

On Monday, the Brecknock Township supervisors learned that Motorsports Developers of King of Prussia has a contract to purchase Maple Grove Raceway.
Maple Grove was put on the market last year for $8 million amid declining revenue and growing infrastructure needs. The actual purchase price was not disclosed due to ongoing due diligence by Motorsports Developers, which has 90 days to complete required steps for the sale.
The grounds have been owned by the Stauffer family since 1923, when the site was used as a logging business. It later became a nationally recognized racetrack, officially opening in 1962.
Motorsports Developers partners Joe Casella, left, Jordan Levitt and Chris Winter at Monday night's Brecknock Township supervisors meeting. Supervisors learned Monday of Motorsports' contract to purchase Maple Grove Raceway.
KEITH SMOKER — READING EAGLE
Motorsports Developers partners Chris Winter, Joseph Casella and Jordan Levitt were on hand to discuss their plans and answer any questions or concerns the public might have. They said they have been “secret shopping” the raceway for six months, and were drawn to it because the community supports it and the township was so welcoming.
The group plans to work with the township and community through the endeavor, and has already opened up a dialogue with the police department.
Levitt said that among the three partners, there is more than 100 years of experience in the racing business, and that Motorsports is backed by private equity.
“The plan is to keep it a racetrack and make the township money through different revenue streams,” Levitt said.
The group plans to increase seating, add a multi-use track for go-karts and driver training for local police and student drivers, fix traffic flow, improve concessions, bring charitable events to the track, and renovate the Maple Grove Restaurant and Bar.
Other ideas include a “Drift Track” where the driver intentionally oversteers while losing traction and maintains control around corners. Partners said such events could draw as many as 3,000 to 8,000 spectators.Winter said he plans to bring back English-style racing, and may even install a spectator tower.
Make it better
Casella said the partners plan to better use the historic facility.
“Our plan is not to upset the apple cart, but make it faster and smoother, having a better use of the facility with no impact at all,” Casella said.
Levitt said his group plans to leave the current staff in place pending background checks, and to add more staff.
Motorsports will share its master plan with supervisors soon, but needs help from the community.
“Believe it or not, we need you to share your complaints about the facility,” Levitt said. “The more the better.”
Chairman Jeffrey Fiant thanked the group for coming.
“We’re glad you’re here,” he said.

I thought this one was going to end up high end housing...
Since real estate development groups own a lot of the surrounding lands.... waiting.

This makes me both Happy and sad.

Happy to see its gonna live but bitter sweet since my buddy I have gone to both Carlisle and Englishtown / Maple Grove over the years just passed away.

We were both 45 and he came to work on Monday with a headache just after this years Mopar event at Maple Grove, rushed to the emergency room after work, diagnosed with a brain mass, operated on just days later on Friday and never woke back up.

He paid for my ticket to get in, I paid for Cracker Barrel on the way home and two days later was the last day I saw him.

So I'm kinda grateful the event seemed a lot later last year then usual, cause even though we were cold a lot of the day I know he was really happy one of his last days before going to the hospital.

Sorry to hear about your friend's passing.

Alas, MGR posted their 2020 schedule and the Mopar Madness event is July 18. Hope this event has a better draw.

And in other, related news - a post on the Capitol Raceway page announcing that the team that ran Capitol the last few years has opted out of doing that this year. No word on what will happen at the track at this point.

Good. Years ago, I was involved in a track. That's not an easy job. Drag racers can be whiners, babies and complainers.

Sounds like some big plans (dreams?). God Bless them and best wishes, but that track has had issues with trying to get improvements approved by the environmental Nazis from waaaay back. Took years to get the return road done on the left hand side of the track. They still don't have any real toilets except for the little building by the staging lanes. I hope it works out for all involved. Always enjoy going there.

I heard the seller did NOT want to sell to a track operator as silly as that sounds.
