Looking for Valve covers for my new engine and there seem to be lots of choices. But they are expensive, and I only want to buy them once!

Running a 10.4" deck Hemi with the old "433" dual plug heads (only using one plug) and INDY rockers. I have a set of the old steel dual plug valve covers, but they are mangled on the exhaust side for rocker/ spring clearance. Which aftermarket valve covers should I be looking for? On one of the old thread searches I found someone said that the INDY valve covers did not clear the INDY rockers.....figures....

This is going in my 68 Barracuda and I will need to be able to pull them often for valve adjustments.

I saw some of the fabricated types like Mancini sells, but they use the long bolts and I worry that may make the already tough task of pulling the passenger side cover off even worse. The Barton and Stage 5 covers look like they may work, but they are costly and I don't want to spend the money and then hope they will fit.

What do you recommend?

-Dave

Assuming your car has the inner fenders, it's tight. (The 10.4 deck helps but still tight.) In that application I think the only thing that there is enough room for is stock valve covers. There are chrome ones on ebay cheap.

Thanks rickseeman, The problem is that stock covers will not clear the springs/rocker combo. The exhaust side hits the valve cover.

I will be modifying the passenger fenderwell like the factory Hemi SS cars for extra clearance but it will still be very tight.

Have you tried using two thick valve cover gaskets on the passenger side? If not it may be your answer scope
I've done other thing to make them fit also like sliding the motor over towards the drivers side a little shruggy If you decide to try that make sure the headers and everything else is hooked up before moving it to avoid creating other issues, DANG them stupid Hemiroid motors anyways whistling grin

Been there, done that. I put a Hemi in a Dart. I don't know if this will help you, but what I did was to go ahead and move the top shock mount over about 3/4" and remake the fender well area near the valve cover so that I could pull the valve cover. In the end, that was the best solution for me.

And it is so tight in that area that you really couldn't tell that the work had been done.

In my 70 Cuda, I wanted to use stock 70 style stock Hemi covers, so I modified them to clear the exhaust rockers. And with the wrinkle paint, you really don't notice the dimples.

You need to know or remember that Hurst use a spacer (I'm not sure how thick they where, sorry :whiney) between the front sub frame and K members on the hemi A body cars they made for Chrysler. That had to affect how the valve covers fit in those cars, huh work

Most of the covers they sell now have more clearance. They aren't "stock" valve covers. I think Todd Marsh's will work. Even the cheapo ones on ebay (nyrestomod or something like that) are worth trying. I've built 2 or 3 motors with those. I was using bigger springs but probably not as big as yours.

i would use only the cast covers. they seal real good and you don't have to put all the bolts in. if you have a crossram you will have trouble getting them on and off no matter what cover you have if you didn't clearance the shock tower like factory hurst cars were.

Jake68,

I am using a Ray Barton Cross Ram and it looks like it will be tight.
