Torque Flite A500s were never released down under except in certain model Jeeps. What are the possibilities of fitting a Jeep A500 to an LA block to replace the old three speed TF, is it just a bell housing difference?

Direct swap, except for mount and driveshaft. IIRC, 6 1516" shorter is what I measured.

Not sure on the Jeep 5.2's A500 but the 4X4 A518 I have has the starter on the right side of the bell.

What vehicle had the A518 with the starter on the right side?

My '98 GC 5.9 Limited had it's own, unique starter, on the passenger side. There was an adapter plate between the trans and block to facilitate the change.

I think it was out of a 1998 Grand 5.9

The 500's, 42 rh/re, were used behind the 4.0's. There was a 44re that came behind the 5.2's. The starter was on the opposite side from normal mope stuff. Kicker was that the RE series of trans were electronic, needing a controller, and the RH series were hydraulic and could be operated with a couple of toggle switches for the lock up and o/d. If my memory serves me right from my dealership parts time, the pans were the same for the two units. The 46/47/48 units use the 727 style pan. I'm not sure if you can retrofit an RE series trans to make it into an RH style.. The RE units came out in 96 for all Jeep, truck and vans. RH units are 95 back. Also, the Jeep starter is not the same as other applications.
