Decided after 20 years of storage, it was time to pull the old gtx out to get it roadworthy. Noticed suspension was shot, old dry rotted motor mounts, etc. Figured it would be a good winter project to make it a driver cone spring.

Crank was factory. 010 under on rods. Still had original bearings. Crank was well marked. Found 6 broken top rings during disassembly. Wear on ring lands shows it was like this long before I bought it.

I decided on polishing the engine compartment and sticking with a driver quality 20 footer. .030 6pack 2355 pistons, Bob k. Camshaft, reconditioned heads, etc. Powder coated suspension parts during rebuild.

My buddy was nice enough to let me use his shop thru the winter, and since he loves to paint, I let him wield the gun. I got the funniest look from him when I set the manifolds on and told him to put over spray all over. He just shook his head and laughed. It came out great in my opinion. Suspension assembly and engine mating coming soon.

Nice looking car!

That would be hard to look at sitting there each day for 20 years!

It was kind of stored out of sight out of mind, basically. I've had a few other projects in the mean time. This one is the keeper.

Working on the air grabber next. Fixing a few cracks in the bubble and repaint.

A few set backs. 3 sets of motor mounts, all wrong and 1/4 inch off. Beware! Mancini had good ones, I bought and had stashed away from 10 years ago. Besides specifically ordering 3/8 fuel pumps, all were wrong in one way or another. 5/16 inlet and 1/4-27 npt outlet. Should be 3/8 and 5/16 compression. Anyhow...It's in. Just need to finish off wiring, etc, before break in.

Drove it for the first time in about 10 years. Needs some tuning and a 3.23 suregrip added. Should be some fun times ahead once the AG is repaired and back on.

Just a driver, but finally had some time to catch up on getting it on the road and driving....after 25 years, lol.

Interior not quite done. Could use a polish and install final trim. Come spring, it will ready, then back to the twin, 71-383 4spd roadrunner.
