My wife & I were at the USS Arizona Memorial on Memorial Day of 2003. They were interring another USS Arizona survivor that day. It was a very somber experience to watch. If I remember right, it was US Navy divers that took that gentlemans remains into the ship. The thing that stood out the most to me about watching it from across the harbor at the launch site, was that the USS Carl Vinson had just returned from the Persian Gulf, and was docked in Pearl, directly across from the Arizona and the Missouri. When the ceremony was taking place over at the memorial, and until the Navy divers returned from the hull of The Arizona....there were literally THOUSANDS of US Navy Sailors in dress whites standing at attention on the deck of the Carl Vinson. It was a very humbling and memorable site to see the respect that they showed.

I wonder why he will be the last interned, when the story says there are three more Arizona survivors still living?
