I grew up looking at my dads early 70s circa 3 5/8s rev limiter with shift light tach in his cars. I recently got my original 69, 340, 4spd swinger going in day two vibe. Part of that was needing THAT tach, my wife bought it for me for Christmas last yr to finish off the vibe of my car. I used it one yr and worked perfect. Went drag racing with the car and you guessed it, the ol trusty tach didn't like the rev's apparently lol. My question is where do I send it to have fixed? Have called multiple places online with no luck. I know auto meter has a repair place for their stuff but haven't had any luck with the Mallory..... It works but the needle is erratic and is obviously not right. Shift light still works etc etc. I have checked all the obvious wiring stuff, thanks

You may want to look into retrofitting an updated circuit board. Erratic/inaccurate needle operation could depend on the ignition system you're using. Sometimes the modern MSD type ignitions don't play well with tachs that were originally intended to be used with dual point or early transistorized systems.Swapping in a modern circuit board could ostensibly solve the issue. If it's got power and ground, there's probably not much inside that can be 'fixed' beyond getting another one.

If you can get beyond the portraits on the main page, maybe see if this guy can help.

That's what autoinstruments do. Modern circuitry in the old tach. You could try an ebay small 8k tach and carefully remove your tach face, place it on new tach and mount the new small tach in foam, that is then placed in the old tach case.

I was told about a automotive instrument repair shop in Tacoma or Seatle that does old car instrument repairs along with the more common repairs, I can't remember the shops name now but they told me about another speciality shop down in L.A.,CA for after market Sun electrical instrument repairs like I wanted done. I ended up buying new VDO instruments for that car instead of spending more for the repairs than the new ones cost shruggy work
I do have one older (mid 1970 to mid 1980s or so) Mallory electric tach that the needle fell off that I may have done for my 1963 Plymouth Fury some day once it is back in line for finishing luck
