Got a text from my Mom today, they had a little excitement at the complex she lives in. UPS hit the covered entryway by the office, nailed it HARD. They not only took out the brick and the beam that was supposed to be supporting the brick, but also cars parked to the left of the first photo got damaged from flying bricks.

This area is accessed by driving across a parking lot. It's not directly off the street, so it's not like they whipped in at 50MPH.

But still.........how friggin fast were they going to do all that? Real lucky no one was hurt or worse. Being a 55+ complex, it's not like people can dive out of the way.

(sorry no pics at the exact moment, I was at work when it happened)

There is probably a new job opening at your local UPS store right now. UPS pays pretty good... Gene

It seems to me that the original builder didn't allow for moving or delivery trucks to drive up to the front door for anyone to unload anything down
I wonder if there was a height limited sign (identifying the safe maximum height) on the part that got torn down work

Mr.Cab Racing and winning with Mopars since 1964. (Old F--t, Huh)

Wouldn't matter, even if they put up flashing lights, idiots will be idiots.

Actually, that's part of the problem, there is a height posted on each side, BUT it's to the highest point, the middle of the arch.

I found this out while I was at my last job when one of our delivery vans went over to drop off some material. Our van was under the max height, but it hit the lower part of the arch (our driver was going slow and just bumped it, unlike UPS)

I feel sorry for the driver, and doubt he or she was going very fast. That looks like a cheap facade, doesn't it? Either way, I still feel sorry for the driver just trying to get their job done during a very busy time, and now might lose their job.
